accumulates data in the form of numbers that can be assessed in an objective fashion, usually involving equations. It frequently takes the form of an experimental design. "Quantitative research gathers data in numerical form which can be put into categories, or in rank order, or measured in units of measurement. This type of data can be used to construct graphs and tables of raw data" (McLeod 2008). For example, a study of the efficacy of a program to prevent teenage suicide might compare the suicide rates of two demographically similar groups of teens: the experimental group that experienced the intervention and the control group that did not. However, not all quantitative assessment methods take the form of formal experiments and quantitative approaches can encompass surveys and other numerical data collection methods (Sakar n.d.). Quantitative research is most useful to gather information from a wide array of subjects and to…

Mathematical Happenings between Ancient Egypt and the 11th Century: Thales and Pythagoras Inspire the Grecian World
In the 6th century, mathematics came to Greece and helped launch the next stage of mathematical evolution in the history of the West. Responsible for this movement were two people—first, Thales of Miletus; second, Pythagoras of Samos (Lewinter & Widulski, 2002). This paper will explain the important contributions that these two mathematicians made in this period of ancient history and show how they were received by the world.
While most people remember ancient Greece for introducing Socrates, Plato and Aristotle to the world, the pre-Socratic mathematicians and philosophers Thales and Pythagoras actually helped to set the stage for the future philosophers by advancing the ideas and theorems that would push the envelope in terms of mathematical thought and philosophy. After all, it was Pythagoras and his school that coined the phrase, “All is number” (NRich, 2011).…

Base ten number system and on common misconceptions, which young children might develop when trying to learn about the use of numbers.
What is Place Value Notation
Place value notation, also otherwise known as positional notation, is a system of encoding numbers such that it simplifies the arithmetic. It is the basis for understanding arithmetic and is essential to the way we read, write, speak or use whole numbers. Another important use of the place value notation is that it allows us to string together and make sense of a sequence of whole numbers put together in order. Quite simply, the place-value system allows us to make sense of a sequence of numbers which would otherwise have just appeared to be random digits put together.
What is the Base Ten number system?
The Base ten number system uses digits for the numbers zero to nine for all number values no matter how small…

real number is assigned to each statement written in a language, within a range from 0 to 1, where 1 means that the statement is completely true, and 0 means that the statement is completely false, while values less than 1 but greater than 0 represent that the statements are partly true, to a given, quantifiable extent. This makes it possible to analyze a distribution of statements for their truth-content, identify data patterns, make inferences and predictions, and model how processes operate.

Multiplicative Number Theory
The Number theory is one of the oldest and largest branches of pure mathematics, which relates to questions and problems based on numbers that are either whole numbers or rational numbers.
The number theory is a branch of mathematics that relates to the properties of the integers comprised of the numbers 0, 1, -1, 2, -2, 3, -3, etc. One of the most essential areas in number theory concerns the analysis of prime numbers. In mathematics, A prime number is defined as an integer p>1 divisible only by 1 and p; the first few primes are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, and 19. Integers that can be divided by more than one divisors are called composite numbers; these numbers include some of the following 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12.
The principle theorem of arithmetic, is the factorization theorem, which states that any positive integer a is a…
" (Avogadro)
His most well-known contribution to the field of chemistry was the statement titled; the Avogadro constant or Avogadro number. Avogadro stated that "a mole equals 6.022 x 1023." (American) It also states that equal volumes of gases, at the same temperature and pressure have the same amount of molecules.
Avogadro's number really means the number of molecules in a mole. His number is essential in chemistry because it calculates the amount of pure substances in stoichiometric relationships. It also determines how much heavier a simple molecule of one gas is than that of another. This number is also very large 6.0221367x10^23. However, Avogadro only hypothesized this and he was not responsible for calculating it, Loschmidt was. (Furtsch)
Even though, Avogadro was not fully responsible for the discovery of the mole, he did solve many controversies and gathered enough research for other scientists, like Loschmidt, to calculate. His curiosity led him to…

A fishbowl draw (or a similar method of physically randomizing the selection of numbers from the population contained in the table, such as dropping a coin from high above an enlarged version of the table and allowing it to bounce onto selected numbers) would be preferred for this study. This means of selection would fully randomize the selection, ensuring the validity of the sample, while at the same time would be fairly easy to accomplish. The creation or utilization of a computer program to randomly select numbers form this population would also be a highly valid and reliable way of accomplishing the necessary sampling, but this would be much more time-intensive as it would require the inputting of the entire population into the computer before the sample could be created. Analysis would be accomplished much faster by the computer after the data had been input, of course, but the data…

There are a number of points of interest regarding "Massage therapy in post-operative rehabilitation of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy - a pilot study." On the whole this is an extremely well-organized article, which is one of its primary strengths. The different sections and phases of the research are well documented. There are a variety of tables that elucidate several components related to the literature review, the results, and the particulars of the subjects considered in the research. However, there is more than one area of the study in which the researchers could have benefited from the use of more substantial effort and a more thorough methodology, which is certainly reflected in the results and the conclusion.
The central weakness of this study is the fact that all of the results were based on research performed on just six subjects. To the credit of the researchers they initially…

Harassment, including sexual and other types as well, is also a common type of formal complaint that must be taken very seriously by contemporary businesses. More extensive employee training can help better inform employees of appropriate work behavior, so that there are less incidences of harassment between employees unknowingly.

Therefore, the research showed that "many organizations within it industries focus on providing "extensive retraining of employees," especially "as reengineering efforts go forward it is important to define and redefine performance goals and objectives, maintain a strong commitment to the vision, break the barriers between the departments, and be flexible as the business environment changes."

Automatic Number Identification
Pros:
The automatic number identification telephone service is good for many reasons. A person can look at the number that is trying to call them, and determined whether or not they want to take the call. This is helpful, for example, during dinner or other activities when people are trying to spend time with their families and telemarketers are calling. It is also extremely helpful in the event of taxi service, pizza delivery, and other businesses that perform deliveries. They can use the ANI system to determine whether or not the order that they have received is legitimate. Callers to 911 are also helped by the service because they are often too frightened to talk to the person on the other end of the line. By having an ANI device, 911 operators can get their phone number as well as their address instead of having to ask them…
The passive style is described as management by exception where employees do not receive notice for their positive contributions to the organization, but instead are paid attention by their manager only when an error or problem arises. Punishment or disciplinary action is often the medium used in this approach. Active transactional leadership uses contingent rewards. With this approach, employees are praised for their performance and may be eligible for pay increases or other incentives (Bolman & Deal, 1991, p. 419). The type of leadership exhibited clearly determines the type of motivation used and often its success or failure.
The situational leadership theory of Hersey and Blanchard proposes that the optimal amount of task and relations behavior depends upon subordinate maturity. As the authors note, what the manager needs is a simple and logical framework for making decisions that will be successful (Hersey & Blanchard, 1990, p. 412). This theory prescribes…

I think the state should be neutral, and there should be opportunities for everyone, but that is not real life. I think that men mostly run government, but to call states patriarchal seems too extreme for me. I believe that there will be more opportunities for women both in government and the private sector, and that this is a wiser and less volatile outlook than the more radical feminist ideas. I do not have a problem with women or minorities in government, and I believe the state should encourage and make way for more of this type of participation.
As far as economic ideals are concerned, I believe a blend of the Minimalist and the Developmental state is the best alternative. I believe that capitalism is a good thing, but that wealth does not need to be distributed evenly, so I am not a fan of the socio-democratic state. I…
Hedging
Baker has a number of possibilities for hedging its exposure to the Brazilian real. Two major forms of currency hedging are forward market hedges and money market hedges. A forward market hedge involves purchasing a forward contract for the currency exchange. A forward allows the firm to lock in the price and timing of the transaction, based on expected exchange rate values on the forward market. A money market hedge involves hedging exposure by borrowing and lending in multiple currencies. Money market hedging involves balancing the differential interest rates and the timing of the currency flows in order to lock in a value for the future cash flow.
Both types of hedging essentially serve the same purpose of locking in the value of the future, foreign-denominated cash flow, thereby reducing the risk associated with the foreign currency transaction. Of the two techniques, forward market hedges are more popular for a couple…

Documenting patient's pain assessment and treatment
Pain assessment is the first step in managing pain. The suggested method of improving pain care essentially requires that the following procedures are followed properly and meticulously.
a) The pain and its intensity must be measured using an appropriate tool. There are many tools but the best is self reporting by the patient for the pain.
b) The second important thing to be followed is to repeat the assessment consistently and record the same at varying intervals to record the process of the progress of pain. The tool or format for this must be chosen before hand and the same record structure must be maintained throughout.
c) It is…

Like so many of us, he feels that heaven has cursed him. The element of disgrace would mean that he has fallen out of favor with God. He feels that all of his efforts are "bootless" (useless). However, the skylark has risen above this, implying that by remembering his love, he will also rise above it.
This author used the example of heaven because it is universal. We all think about our mortality and want to make sure that our lives have meaning. Without it, we are lost and rudderless. However, like the skylark, love will help us rise above the situation and finally make our way through the troubles of life that we all have.

Harlequin has a number of strengths on which it trades. The first is that the company has perfected its standardized product, delivering a set number of titles at a specific size and price point every month. As a result, the company has cultivated a loyal readership and can more or less count on revenue stability even if growth were to stop. The company's in-house writers and editors are a source of sustainable competitive advantage. In addition, the company's in-house sales force in Canada has proved to be a success. Business knowledge is another strength -- Harlequin knows its audience very well and believes that this can translate into other products, such as movies. Among the company's weaknesses is its inability to transcend its narrow business. Harlequin's multiple attempts at diversification have all ended in failure. The company's sales staff in the U.S. is underperforming, and despite Harlequin's emphasis on standardization…
Coca-Cola faced a number of different ethical issues. The case outlines some of them. The company had faced charges of racial discrimination at many of its plants, in particular relating to the lack of upward mobility for African-Americans at some of the company's southern plants. The company also faced charges of misrepresenting market tests, manipulating earnings, disrupting long-term contractual agreements with some of its distributors. All of these issues affect different stakeholders, but each has the ability to disrupt the company's reputation as an ethical firm. The new management needs to prioritize these issues and address them, while placing the issues in the context of a new philosophy of ethical management.
Of these issues, the manipulation of earnings is the most important. In order to make that determination, we must examine the different issues from the stakeholder perspective to understand the bottom line. The charges of racial discrimination affect a…

There are a number of factors Nick needs to consider for the project to be a success. First, he needs to understand what the project is, and what the expectations for the project are. These need to be specific, so that they can be actionable and so that Nick can be evaluated properly. Nick will need to understand the industry and project management process well in order to translate the desired specs into a set of actions and resource allocations that will deliver positive results. Internal resources, external environmental conditions, time frames, specs, budgets -- there are an almost untold number of individual factors that need to be taken into consideration.
The planning meeting here is in incomprehensible debacle. There is no focus and no specificity. Now, this is done in media res so we'll assume that everybody knows each other and their roles, and that the project has been introduced…

There are a number of ways that Alliance can benefit from the data it is gathering. The fact that is still orders periodically according to normal patterns is a complete waste of this wonderful data that they are gathering. First, their normal case scenario should not be the end point of how they order but the beginning. The median order quantity for a given period will clearly have some variability, which implies that Alliance can calculate a standard deviation of this data. The standard deviation information will be the basis for ordering going forward.
The demand differs according to a number of factors. The more of these factors that Alliance can identify for a given product, the better it will be able to manage its order quantities. For example, it knows that demand for some products is seasonal, and for others weather-related. This means that given a forecast Alliance can determine…

According to Hebraic tradition, the chronological period in the book consists of the second month of the second year (measured from Exodus) to the beginning of the eleventh month of the fortieth year -- in all, roughly 39 years 9 months of wandering, with, of course, fewer in number at the end of the journey than at the beginning. Again, according to tradition, Moses was the author of all five books of the Torah, but stylistically, at least in both Hebrew and then Aramaic, the prose in Numbers is far dryer and more scholarly, leading most to believe that this particular section was derived from several priestly sources tentatively dated at 4th-6th century BC (Harris, 1985).
Since Numbers is divided into three parts, it is useful to provide an overview of the literative focus and consequences of each section:
Number's the eople of the Lord -- God ordered Moses to count…
Preparations for crossing the River Jordan -- Moses disobeys God and is punished, as are the tribes for speaking against God and Moses, and a new census is taken to be used to organize the tribal units into their new home. The Israelites conquer the Midian population, and the land of the Jordan is divided among the tribes.
Numbers ends with a summary technique, common in ancient Middle Eastern writings, called a colophon. Their usage as both a literary and historical tool was not understood until recently, and their form is more of an oral legal tradition, designed to state the place and circumstance of each composition, thus also organizing the story for posterity (Friedman, 2005).
Part II -- Analysis of the text -- the story of Numbers is actually rather simplistic -- it is a recounting of transition, and, like Job, a psychological organization of the manner in which God, through Moses, tested the Israelites to see if they were worth of having their own land. There are repeated trials and tribulations suffered by the people if they either do not obey God or Moses, or simply move apart and try to accomplish their own sense of organizing the world (Spence and Excell, 2009).. The message is quite clear: "Obey God and you will be rewarded, it may take some time, but eventually it will happen. Doubt God, and you will be punished." Structurally, it is more chronological than thematic, symbols are used within the original language of place names, events, and even phrases "the land of milk and honey," likely meaning, for instance, fertile land that will support
The critic then claims that it is not plausible that the correct moral theory could demand the sacrifice of innocent individuals in this way, and therefore consequentialism should be rejected.
(Lawlor, 2004)
The above example serves to illustrate that consequentialism as a theory applied to criminal justice, has certain inescapable flaws in terms of ethics and morality.
The aspect of partiality is also another more technical objection to the validity of this stance. The theory of consequentialism is intended to decide on moral goodness or otherwise from an impartial and uninvolved viewpoint and only judge actions based on consequences. An example that is often given in the literature is the view that the happiness of one individual over another is not as important as the outcomes in term so the greatest amount of happiness. Therefore, consequentialism tends to hold that in deciding what to do, you ought to give just as much…

Stroke
Stroke is identified as one of the leading causes of death and to decrease mortality rate a review of the causes is required. The importance of measuring and reviewing health care quality is no longer questioned. However quantifying quality is a difficult task one that involves a subjective element and judgment. Different methods are employed in measuring quality such as level of care provided, administration accuracy, staff sufficiency, hygiene level and therapies provided. The need to combine the facts and figures with judgments and evaluation is a complex process and needs to be done with utmost care. The quality measures need to be evaluated on a regular basis to ensure their relevance and validity in the given circumstances.
Measures used to monitor and review quality:
As the hospital administration began to realize the link between stroke patients death and the quality of service rendered the need to analyze data became inevitable. Quality…

Special Education
Since the introduction of PL-142 the Special education system has received both praise and criticism. Special Education Programs are an essential component to our educational system. The current special education system has aided many people but improvements are desperately needed as rates of enrollment increase and the number of special education teachers' decrease. The growth in the number of special education students is the topic of conversation among educators all across the country.
The purpose of this investigation is to discuss the increase in the American special education population. We will discuss the factors that have contributed to the increase including; the effect of PL-142 on the growth of the special education population early identification of special needs, the additional conditions that qualify students for special education, the placement of low achieving students in special education programs, accountability reforms, pressure from parents, the disproportionate amount of minorities that are…

Whole-Number Computation
Equal-groups math problems can be delineated as word problems where an individual is given a number of equal groups, and then the task is to find the missing number within the problem. In other words, equal-groups are groups that comprise of the similar number of equivalent items.
To simplify the understanding of these questions, a full equal-groups math problem comprises of three different parts including the number of groups, the number of items contained in every group, and the total number in all of the groups. The following formula makes it possible to comprehend how to comprehend these three parts using multiplication:
The number of groups × the number of items in every group = total
The number of groups is one factor, and the “in each” number is the other factor. The total number in all groups is the product. It is imperative to note that in equal-group math problems, one…

There are many opportunities for future research, where the different factors at specific ages could be taken into account. This is important because it can help to focus on what stages are the most significant, in the development of adaptive behavior in autistics. The implications of these finding are: that they can help to provide both researchers and educators with knowledge; about how social, genetic and psychological factors will play a role in determining someone's adaptive behavior. With little amounts of research on this aspect of Autism, this could help to provide some kind of insights as to how these different areas play in the development of adaptive behavior.
Clearly there is role between social, genetic and psychological factors in relation to adaptive behavior. This is important because for so long research has been limited on this subject. However, by sampling the 77 males of different age groups, this article highlights…

S. International Industries could face a situation like this. The existing legislation does not require safety equipment in one country that is standard in most countries. The company then needs to decide on a choice between using the safety equipment anyway or squeezing that last $500,000 in profit out of the well.
Ethical dilemmas occur frequently in business. They arise out of the conflict between two reasonable but mutually exclusive objectives. In each of these situations, the laws act as the source of ethical guidance, but that is not always the case. The ethical standards of one region do not always apply in other regions. This can be seen in international business with bribery, nepotism and the cultivating of political influence. For International Investments, such issues are going to occur constantly, given the businesses in which the company operates. It will be necessary for the company to develop an ethical imperative…

On his weight training days, I would encourage Jack to "shake up" his typical walk by instead doing two or three sessions weekly on a recumbent bicycle. Given Jack's weight and age, a recumbent bike would minimize stress on his joints while adding variety to his aerobic routine. Finally, in older adults in particular, flexibility is key. I would focus on stretches that do not require bending over (to prevent falling), but would spend at least five to ten minutes per session working on stretches that Jack could also perform at home while seated. During each session, I would frequently ask how Jack was feeling to make sure he was not pushing too far past his limits. ith older adults, checking how hard they feel they are working on a scale of one to ten (perceived exertion) helps to prevent injury or worse.
Jack's nutritional strategy would be key to…

hen I understand what drives people to buy bottled water, I will be in a better position to forecast demand. I expect disposable income, distribution saturation, cleanliness and taste of tap water and price of bottled water will all factor. ith this information, I could understand the price elasticity of demand, for example, or the elasticity of demand relating to any other variable. Going international I would focus on the same, but I would also understand the currency exchange dynamics and the image that my country or region has overseas. In general, however, the types of information I need would be mainly the same, with respect to marketing. ith respect to culture (marketing message) or other such variables unrelated to the economics of the decision, there are undoubtedly some different forms of information that I would need.

In the wake of a disaster, a business is likely to suffer from a reduction of revenue, until the normal business climate returns. In some cases, the normal business climate may take years to return, and the loss of business will be prolonged. The loss of business can be insured against to some degree, but there are also systemic steps that can be taken to mitigate the damage. Having a low debt level can help a business to survive a post-disaster slowdown, because the business will still be able to meet its financial obligations even with reduced revenue streams. Diversification, in particular geographic diversification, can help as well. A small restaurant operator with three restaurants in Miami is more susceptible to business failure post-hurricane than a restauranteur with three locations spread between Miami, Tampa and Orlando, since any given hurricane will only close one restaurant in the group instead of…

A living wage is intended to provide a certain minimum level to sustain life and to push toward the abolition of poverty. It is also based on the vie that money can be saved by the city if the city does not have to provide certain health and other services to the working poor because they can pay for it themselves or because their employers provide it as part of the package. By most measures, it saves money when the employer makes such arrangements because the employer is more cost-conscious than a government entity may be. In truth, it would be preferable if a larger political entity made such an ordinance binding, as is noted by Coverford (2006), who says the Chicago law would be ineffective in the suburbs because retailers could easily move across boundaries to a smaller suburb without such a law it if so chose. If…

These different elements are important, because they are indicating that Ms. Lee needs to seek out regular treatment. As a result, some kind of consistent assessment must take place, in order to ensure that she is not subject to having a serious fall. This is because, of the overt signs that she is exhibiting from the side effects of the medication and her age. (Henrich, 2007, pp. 50 -- 57)
ased on the fact that Ms. Lee does not want to have an extensive diagnostic evaluation at the hospital, how would one approach her care?
The most logical approach is to have Ms. Lee go through a series of evaluations inside her home with health care professionals. This could be accomplished by having the doctor visit her apartment at least once per week. At the same time, select caregivers could begin to work with Ms. Lee on a regular basis. This…

Lactose-free milk serves a specific market niche of lactose-intolerant people. Soy and goat milk serve a similar role in delivering the benefits of milk to people with medical or philosophical reasons for avoiding cow's milk. Chocolate milk appeals to people who want the benefits of milk but want to drink candy instead.
There are potential geodemographic segments that are served by some of these products. The Asian community, which has a higher than average degree of lactose intolerance, also has in some areas soy milk as a traditional product. Thus, in areas with high concentrations of Asians, it can be expected that more soy milk products will be available. As noted, it is reasonable that more progressive areas will have different milk selections than will less progressive areas. Thus, there might be different varieties of organic milk, and in more sizes, in such areas. The availability of niche market milk…
The company has not used such reports before, which means that the value of the reports is unknown but it also means that the company is more likely to implement the reports poorly, making them less useful.
There are a number of alternatives flowing from this analysis. The company could implement the reports, either set or both, in order to better determine where its troubles lie. These options would take time while key branches are bleeding sales, but the information would likely be valuable. The second main alternative is to ignore the sales woes and pursue a new opportunity -- there are several to choose from.
It is recommended that the company attack the declining sales on multiple fronts. The first is on the marketing side. If the consumer perceives quality to be an issue, it will be revealed and the marketing surveys will reveal other issues as well, such as…
Economics
There are a number of different metrics that can help to measure the health of an economy. The GDP is one of those numbers, and can be obtained from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Following a decline of 2.6% in 2009, the GDP grew in 2010 by 2.9%. GDP rates fluctuated by quarter, with a low of 1.7% in Q2 following by escalating growth in the last two quarters. This represents a slow recovery from the steep declines of 2008-2009. Another measure of economic health is unemployment. The current unemployment rate from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is 9.0%, a decline of 0.4 percentage points from December. This rate is historically high, it is lower than at any point in the past year, again showing a sign of slow recovery. A third measure of economic health can be found in the inflation rate. The best measure of inflation is core…

HR Circus
There a number of human resources needs for a startup circus similar to Cirque de Soleil. The organization has to source performers and creatives from around the world, so the HR department needs to be able to operate globally rather than regionally or nationally. This presents numerous logistical challenges. In addition, the human resources department needs to set out job descriptions for performers and means of evaluating output, which can be challenging in creativity-oriented fields. Another challenge for this entity will be to manage the contracts of the different employees. As most of a circus' business involves touring, the employment for most employees will be finite and managing the contract status and potential benefits, in addition to gaining national work permits, for thousands of employees is a significant challenge for HR.
The human resources department will also need to find support staff that understand the industry and can adapt to…
Pay Pal suffered a number of setbacks and challenges in bringing its IPO to market. The company was attempting to go public after the dot-com bubble had been burst, during a time when the IPO market for tech stocks -- especially those that were not turning a profit -- was terrible. The debut was delayed at the last minute due to a legal challenge from a company known as CertCo, which filed a patent infringement suit. The company had received notice from the state of Louisiana saying that it would not be allowed to do business there until it received a money transmission license (Glasner, 2002). This was seen as a sign that similar challenges could impede its ability to do business in any number of jurisdictions.
The IPO was planned with a proposed sale of 5.4 million shares at a price between $12-14, to raise in the neighborhood of $76…

Corona
There are a number of trends in the global beer industry. One is consolidation, where firms are using mergers and acquisitions to enter new markets and to achieve economies of scale. For a brewer like Modelo, consolidation means that the company becomes smaller relative to the industry's top firms. Modelo has does not compete (at least with Corona) on a cost-leadership strategy, so this trend does not matter much for production economies of scale but it does matter for marketing economies of scale. Corona is also leading a trend of premium beer brands competing in the marketplace. Products such as Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Heineken and (in international markets) Budweiser are competing with this strategy in this is one of the most important growth markets in the industry.
Modelo's international expansion was made possible through the use of strategic partnerships with distributors. These partnerships allowed Modelo to penetrate internationally markets quickly, with…

There a number of techniques for performing multivariate analysis. These include factor analysis, multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. The first of these, factor analysis, is used to determine "something about the nature of the independent variables that affect the dependent variables," without actually measuring the independent variables (Darlington, n.d.).
DeCoster (1998) notes that there are two types of factor analysis: exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. As DeCoster points out "Factor analyses are performed by examining the pattern of correlations (or covariances) between the observed measures. Measures that are highly correlated are likely influenced by the same factors."
An example in the real world is outlined by Goldberg (n.d.). In this example, an energy company wanted explanations for trends in customer energy usage. The study featured sixteen different factors ranging from bill services to cost/rates issues to type of house. This example is not very good, because the conclusion is…

Marxist theory always sees class struggle, always exploitation of the haves vs. The have nots, and asks what economic systems cause societies to structure themselves in this hierarchical manner. Marx believed his theories about class struggle and historical materialism were scientific, and had the objective of developing a scientific analysis of the working class and its relationship to the owners. Marxist sociology asks: how does capital control the working class? How does the mode of production influence class? What is the interrelationship between workers, economics and the state? How do economic issues influence the inequalities in society? Thus, Marx views labor as integral but underactualized -- in a sense, Taylorism proves Marx's point about the conflict between classes.
Prior to both Marx and Taylor, John Locke, one of the most influential English philosophers of the Enlightenment Period, set the stage for the role of humanity within society. His views on…

This is because; there are consortiums of regulations that provide no clear policy. The Colorado Court of Appeals sided with the NCAA. They felt that these rules were within the scope of their authority of controlling the actions of athletes and the college sports. These facts can be used to demonstrate that the policy of coaches breaching their contracts is in compliance with legal guidelines and case precedent. ("Bloom v. National Collegiate Athletic Association")
The biggest challenge against this policy is Law v. NCAA. Under this ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals found that any kind of attempts to restrict a coach's salary is considered to be in violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. At the same time, they found that the rule is discriminating against coaches by limiting their salaries and the numbers that can serve on a team. This is supposed to maintain the competitive balance inside the…

Maintenance is often put on hold until it is desperately needed, rather than a simple preventative measure. I believe Mainella is unknown, and most Americans, who do not understand the scope and depth of the Park Service and what it tries to accomplish, misunderstand her work.
Mainella has a background in Parks and Recreation, and has been recognized by some peer groups for her work. However, I believe that in the future, as she manages the Park Service more effectively, that she will become more well-known and well thought of. The Park System needs renovation, just as many of the parks need renovation. Through new volunteers, additional publicity, and tireless work, the people of the National Parks attempt to reach more visitors every year, and as they do, these visitors take home a unique and often majestic experience. To allow more volunteers to interact with visitors and bring their own…
This means they set medium term goals may be up to five years. This requires that they make detailed and precise judgments, so that their medium term goals are met. This has made the methodology require sophisticated business statistical applications. (Statistical Thinking for Managerial Decisions) Long-term planning in business normally makes it necessary to make estimations regarding the future and extrapolations of the past, is used for this. The trends can be identified, but these may be accurate for a short time and in it lay the danger of forecasting by extrapolation of the past, since data cannot be expected to forecast something that has not happened. It is here that the importance of strategic planning has relevance. Strategic planning adds more control into a situation where the outcome is more likely to be taken on the probable occurrence of an event or set of events in the near…

Fundamentally, the insurgents are fighting an enemy with superior weaponry, technology, and resources, so therefore, must seek avenues to mitigate these disadvantages. In other words, insurgent forces out vastly outdone in the traditional aspects of warfare, so they are forced to resort to unconventional modes of attack.
Early in his book, the Army and Vietnam, Krepinevich provides the broad game plan an insurgent force must follow to achieve final victory:
As developed by Mao in China and adapted by Giap in Vietnam, contemporary insurgency is a third world phenomenon comprising three phases: first, insurgent agitation and proselytization among the masses -- the phase of contention; second, overt violence, guerrilla operations, and the establishment of bases -- the equilibrium phase; and third, open warfare between insurgent and government forces designed to topple the existing regime -- the counteroffensive phase."
Primarily, this form of warfare consists of the formation of a political party, then…

Valuation
There are a number of different factors that contribute to a stock's valuation in the market compared with the financial statements. One fundamental difference between the two is that the book value reflects past performance while the market reflects future performance. Book value of the company's equity is determined by the past profit performance of the stock and the amount of debt that the company has. The market value reflects the investor's expectations of the future cash flows that will accrue from owning one share of the company's stock (No author, 2011).
Valuing a firm's equity can be done using a number of techniques, each relying on different assumptions. The first of these is the Gordon growth model (or dividend discount model). This model assumes that stocks are valued based on their intrinsic value alone -- that the value of a company's stock is based only on the known dividend and…

Team Analysis
This team has a number of problems including a strong lack of communication, and perhaps the communication skills necessary to overcome that absence. Additionally, the leadership of the group is relatively weak in character, at least as a leader for this particular team. The team may have the collective, and individual, knowledge and expertise to accomplish the task that has been set before them, however, using that knowledge and experience seems to be completely hindered by the team's lack of cohesion. Although there seems to be a consensus among the team as to which design would work best for the project, no one seems to want to take the lead in asserting what is obvious to the team members. That is where good leadership skills can come in handy.
Team Strengths
The team as a group has a world of experience; academic and professional in nature. Gary, the leader, has successfully…
Chronic Liver Disease
With a number of functions -- including detoxification, protein synthesis, and the production of chemicals that are necessary for digestion -- the human liver is vital.
It is reddish brown and has four unequal sized lobes; usually weighs about 3.5 pounds and is the largest gland in the human body. It is located just below the diaphragm in the body's right upper abdominal quadrant.
The liver plays a major role in the body's metabolic processes as well -- glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, some hormone production.
The liver produces bile -- which is an alkaline compound that helps in digestion by changing fat (lipid) molecules to a more digestible format.
The liver's detoxification and synthesis of micronutrients are vital -- short-term liver dialysis is possible, but a person cannot exist without a functioning liver (Virtual Liver, 2008).

Cirrhosis is the result of chronic liver disease in which liver…

company is in a number of businesses, but primarily the overnight courier and the package delivery businesses. FedEx operates around the world.
The first big idea is that 'choices involve tradeoffs'. This applies to FedEx in a few ways. The company is offering a premium service to customers and charges a premium price for that service. There are a number of different services that FedEx offers, and these services compete with UPS and the USPS. The customer must decide what the right combination of price and service is going to be for the shipment. These choices will affect the total demand for FedEx and the type of demand as well. Understanding how consumers make these choices, especially with respect to the price of the different overnight delivery options, is going to be a key success factor for FedEx that allows it to set its prices closer to the point of…
business, there are a number of issues that will have an impact on a firm's ability to compete and increase their profit margins. One of the most formidable is the transformations that can occur inside an industry. This means that corporations have to understand potential threats and create strategies for mitigating them. Otherwise, there is the possibility that a company could lose their market share and dominance in the sector.
A good example of this can be by looking at General Motors. From 1946 until 2008, they were considered to be the world's largest automaker. Yet, foreign manufacturers continued to erode away at their position. This is because the management failed to understand the challenges they were facing and adapt with them. The long-term effects are that the firm was forced into bankruptcy and had to receive government bailouts in order to stay in business. This is illustrating how not…

Economics
There are a number of different causes for the most recent recession in the United States. The primary cause was instability in the banking industry, which was brought about mismanagement of mortgage assets. This paper will investigate this cause in particular, although there were other causes as well.
The housing bubble was created when, fueled by easy access to cheap loans, housing prices increased rapidly. These prices increased rapidly in part because the financial institutions that underwrote the mortgages were able to offload that debt onto other investors. They did this by packaging that debt into instruments that were known as collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). These rare derivative instruments were used by financial institutions to hedge loan risk, by spreading that risk around the financial services industry. Loans were packaged, and these complex bundles of loans were typically seen to be low risk. They were not, however, and when the housing…

Financial Ratios
There are a number of financial ratios that will be valuable to a small business person. A small business is often concerned with cash flow, so ratios that are the most concern fall into three categories -- liquidity, profitability and efficiency. Liquidity ratios measure the ability of the company to meet its upcoming financial obligations. These ratios are important for ensuring that there is enough cash on hand to pay the bills. The profitability ratios are important because the business will be more successful if it is able to manage its margins. Efficiency ratios are concerned with how fast items like inventory or accounts receivable are turned over. These ratios are a direct reflection of the company's working capital, and improvements in these ratios improve the working capital flow.
These ratios are going to be slightly different from those that a large corporation values. The large corporation actually does value…

There are a number of stakeholders in this situation. Procter & Gamble, Iams, their employees and their shareholders represent one set of stakeholders, oriented primarily towards defusing or deflecting the criticism in order to protect their market share, profits and shareholder value. The animals are another direct stakeholder, and they have little voice here. PETA's stakes are unclear. They position themselves as speaking for and defending the animals, but they might well have other motives. We know that PETA thrives on publicity, and seeks it out for a number of reasons. Consumers are a further stakeholder, as pet lovers are unlikely to be attracted to a pet food company known for cruelty to cats and dogs. Supply chain partners are stakeholders, and their interest falls somewhere in between the interests of the company and the interests of the consumers. Regulators are a stakeholder because there are laws governing the treatment…
simulation featured a number of different economic concepts. The first is the issue of the supply curve. Shifts in the supply curves occur as the result of changes in price, or also in changes in demand. When the price of a good in the market changes, firms are likely to increase production. When the price of a good in the market decreases, some firm are likely to reduce or eliminate production. Also, technological improvements can serve to increase supply by making firms in the industry more efficient.
There are also shifts in the demand curve. Such shifts occur when there is a change in the price or a change in the supply. There can also be external shocks such as recession that affect the amount of demand in the economy. When the price of a good drops, this typically will cause demand to increase. When the price of a good…
business, there are a number of challenges that will face any organization. The main reason is from changes in regulations, technology and the marketplace. For executives to understand how to respond to these kinds of situations often involves examining various journal articles. When it comes to tax issues and information literacy, this requires looking at two pieces of literature that have been written on the subject. This will be accomplished through studying the articles that were written by yesky (i.e. Honorary Board Membership, eal Tax Liability and On Solid Legal Ground). Once this takes place, is when we can offer specific insights as to how businesses can respond to these issues.
The first article that was written by yseky (2009) (i.e. Honorary Board Membership, eal Tax Liability) he is discussing how tax liability laws are applied to honorary board members of trusts. What has been happening is there were a…
