What is People?

The study of people sits at the center of nearly every academic discipline, from sociology and psychology to literature, public health, and political science. Essays grouped under this broad topic examine human behavior, identity, social roles, and the systems that shape individual lives. Because the subject touches so many fields, students encounter it in introductory composition courses, upper-division humanities seminars, and professional programs alike. Works like Sophocles' Oedipus the King and Langston Hughes' "Night Funeral in Harlem" appear alongside nursing research and immigration policy, reflecting how questions about what it means to be human cross disciplinary boundaries and resist simple answers.

The papers archived here take a wide range of approaches. Literary analysis appears in close readings of Hughes and Sophocles, while social and policy perspectives drive essays on immigration, reintegration after incarceration, and technology dependence. Applied professional angles emerge in work on nursing evidence-based practice, physical education teacher burnout, and strategic staffing. Personal narrative and descriptive writing feature in essays about historical figures and memorable life events, while research-oriented pieces examine extracurricular activity, premarital factors, and quality improvement initiatives. This variety shows that writing about people can mean analyzing a character, evaluating a workplace policy, or reflecting on lived experience.

A strong essay on any aspect of this topic needs a focused, arguable thesis rather than a general statement about humanity. Evidence that carries weight includes specific examples, credible research, or close textual detail depending on the assignment type. The most common pitfall is scope creep — trying to address all of society when the essay should examine one clear issue, case, or idea in meaningful depth.

Barthes' Myth Theory Applied to Shakespeare's Henry V
This paper discusses Shakespeare's Henry V as a tale of national self-mythologization. The victory of the English comes to symbolize the triumph of English democratic values over the values of the elitist French, even though the two nations are technically fighting over a plot of land, not moral values. Henry comes to symbolize the 'common touch' of English kingship.

Governance and Technical Security Metrics: Limits and Value
The objective of this study is to examine the concept that the use of various Metrics has tended to improve security however, Metrics alone may not necessarily improve security. This study will focus on two well-known metrics. This work examines governance metrics and technical metrics. There has been found to be an increase in the interest in security metrics and the focus on governance in the organization has highlighted the need for measurement and reporting that is accurate. Metrics and measures are held as standards for measurement that affect decision making and that are supported by quantifying relevant data, where measurement refers to the process by which they are obtained. The characteristics of good metrics has been examined and specifically the two dimensions of metrics including governance and technical metrics. While these metrics are needed and useful, this study has found that these metrics alone are not enough to ensure organizational security due to inherent limitations in the present methods of measurement.

Health Advocacy Campaigns Addressing Childhood Obesity
The policy problem addressed in this paper has to do with effective implementation of established programs for addressing childhood obesity in communities. Since, "there are reasons not to endorse the standard economic model's laissez-fire implications when applied to adults" and even more reasons when the model is applied to children (Anderson, et al, 2003). Moreover, children's lives are governed by their parents and by schools, but social conditions and policies have contributed to situations in which childhood obesity thrives. The provisions of en loco parentis may have more relevance today than ever before—schools must be enlisted to make meaningful changes that benefit the health of children and not just their intellect. The role of public health nurses in this arena is clearly one of advocacy, but an advocacy that is supported by an enormous corpus of policy and good will. It is only the political will—much of which resides at the local level—that is lacking.

Many nursing theory conferences were organized and held by the nurses to discuss the use of these theories in research and practice.
