What is People?

The study of people sits at the center of nearly every academic discipline, from sociology and psychology to literature, public health, and political science. Essays grouped under this broad topic examine human behavior, identity, social roles, and the systems that shape individual lives. Because the subject touches so many fields, students encounter it in introductory composition courses, upper-division humanities seminars, and professional programs alike. Works like Sophocles' Oedipus the King and Langston Hughes' "Night Funeral in Harlem" appear alongside nursing research and immigration policy, reflecting how questions about what it means to be human cross disciplinary boundaries and resist simple answers.

The papers archived here take a wide range of approaches. Literary analysis appears in close readings of Hughes and Sophocles, while social and policy perspectives drive essays on immigration, reintegration after incarceration, and technology dependence. Applied professional angles emerge in work on nursing evidence-based practice, physical education teacher burnout, and strategic staffing. Personal narrative and descriptive writing feature in essays about historical figures and memorable life events, while research-oriented pieces examine extracurricular activity, premarital factors, and quality improvement initiatives. This variety shows that writing about people can mean analyzing a character, evaluating a workplace policy, or reflecting on lived experience.

A strong essay on any aspect of this topic needs a focused, arguable thesis rather than a general statement about humanity. Evidence that carries weight includes specific examples, credible research, or close textual detail depending on the assignment type. The most common pitfall is scope creep — trying to address all of society when the essay should examine one clear issue, case, or idea in meaningful depth.

Montanism and Early Christian Heresies: A Theological Analysis
The first part of the paper considers heretical Montanism, including its emphasis on the Holy Spirit, its celebration of the Eucharist with cheese, and its manifestations of glossolalia, that are seen in contemporary Pentecostals. Montanism is described in terms of greater involvement of women in ministry: the heresy of Montanus is seldom mentioned without reference to "those demented women Prisca and Maximilia," as Saint Jerome calls them in his letter to Marcella refuting the Montanist heresy. The second impulse is toward a greater asceticism. And the third is a millenarian and dispensationalist belief that the Montanists lived in end times were governed by the Holy Spirit. The second portion of the paper describes other heresies and controversies in Christian doctrine, and defends the study of them.

Hurricane Katrina should have given Americans a lesson on how to prevent major destructions in case of a similar scenario.

Cataloging E-Books and Vendor Records: A Critical Analysis
Martin & Mundle assert that e-books have increasingly become a vital portion of scores of academic library collections. Catalog records on the other hand are essential as they promote discovery of e-books. However, cataloging individual e-books entails an intricate activity particularly when huge packages are bought (Martin & Mundle, 2010). In this regard, most libraries depend on external sources for e-book catalog records. Such sources come from services of third-party record or from vendors. According to Martin & Mundle (2010), most libraries opt to handle records in batch as a means of offering access to huge sets. Notwithstanding the practicability of using records in batch, there are several challenges linked to this method of cataloging e-books. Through a case study approach with qualitative analysis, the article investigates the problems of controlling MARC (Machine-Readable Cataloging) records for University of Illinois's Springer e-book collection. Besides challenges in management of MARC, the authors highlight the methods and tools needed to enhance quality of record in consortial setting operation (Martin & Mundle, 2010). More so, the article underscores the constant challenges faced while handling vendor records besides providing key steps that are essential in expediting the procedure of cataloging vendor records. The authors underlined various issues encountered while cataloging e-books and vendor records. The issues are highlighted in three major categories which include load issues, access issues and record-quality issues.
