What is Position?

Position as an academic topic spans a wide range of disciplines, from business administration and public policy to nursing, education, and personal development. Courses in organizational behavior, healthcare management, political science, and professional writing all prompt students to examine what it means to hold, argue for, or strategically occupy a position — whether that refers to a job role, a policy stance, a formal argument, or a place within an institution. The topic is academically interesting precisely because it sits at the intersection of identity, authority, knowledge, and strategy, requiring writers to think carefully about how individuals and organizations establish and justify where they stand.

The papers collected here take notably varied approaches. Some are analytical, examining how organizations and companies leverage employee experience and satisfaction to strengthen their competitive position. Others are policy-oriented, addressing issues in education, nursing practice, or public administration, including cultural diversity in nursing and the role of strategic planning in public policy. Still others are personal and reflective, asking writers to assess their own professional success, goals, and future plans. Case analyses and reviews — including examinations of leadership models in healthcare and the effects of deregulation on global finance — round out the range with applied, evidence-based approaches.

A strong essay on this topic begins with a clearly scoped thesis that specifies whose position is being examined and in what context — avoiding the common pitfall of treating "position" so broadly that the argument loses focus. Evidence drawn from organizational data, policy documents, professional guidelines, or concrete personal experience tends to carry the most weight. Writers should connect their specific case or argument back to broader principles, whether about leadership, institutional design, or professional identity, to demonstrate analytical depth beyond simple description.

Archie Norman's Change Management at Asda
Norman's success as a change agent will depend largely on his ability to execute the requisite culture change at Asda. He made an excellent choice when he recruited Allen Leighton as VP of Marketing, who appears to be the sort of individual that associates will look to for confirmation that they are moving in the right direction. Norman's credibility will rest in the financial success of the company that is a result of the cost-cutting and structural changes he implemented early, and the backdrop of the softer attributes of the renewal effort. The shifts that are necessary for robust culture change include coordination of the change efforts in each of the stores, taking down the communication and functional silos, and establishing a rigorous training and development plan for internal managers. Some of this effort will be directed toward back-filling where spots of resistance to change have sprung up and where associates identify areas with which they would like more involvement—this is the work of the mutual engagement of the core, and it will not be unfamiliar to a former McKinsey & Company consultant.

Effective PTSD Treatment: Pharmacotherapy and Psychotherapy
Two authoritative sources were reviewed on the topic of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One source was a textbook authored by numerous experts and provided details of their clinical experiences treating PTSD in conjunction with their knowledge of relevant empirical research. That source also covered the full range of treatments available. The second source was a literature review detailing the relative effectiveness of different selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in the treatment of PTSD. That source was limited in scope to one class of pharmacotherapy but still identified an important gap in the empirical literature currently available: namely, the absence of studies considering the relative effectiveness of combined modalities in treating PTSD. It also concluded that SSRI-based treatments are more effective in the long term than when limited to the shorter term.
