What is Research?

Research as a discipline sits at the foundation of nearly every academic field, from the natural sciences and medicine to social science, business, and education. Students across courses in sociology, organizational behavior, biology, marketing, and public policy are asked to engage with research not just as consumers of evidence but as practitioners who must design, evaluate, and defend systematic inquiry. What makes the topic academically compelling is its dual nature: research is both a subject of study and a method, requiring students to understand how data is gathered, how quality is assessed, and how evidence supports or challenges existing knowledge.

The archived papers on this topic span a wide range of approaches. Some take a methodological focus, examining qualitative research methods or the design of research proposals, as seen in work addressing the three strikes law. Others apply research frameworks to specific issues such as employee turnover, work-life balance, embryonic stem cell ethics, and the effects of video games on children. Still others move into organizational and market contexts, analyzing vision and mission statements or segmentation strategies, while some engage with social science literature and family structure comparisons. This variety reflects how research methodology adapts across disciplines rather than belonging to any single one.

A strong essay on research grounds its thesis in a clearly defined question and matches its chosen method to that question. Evidence drawn from peer-reviewed journals carries the most weight, and writers should demonstrate why their approach — qualitative, quantitative, or mixed — suits their subject. The most common pitfall is conflating topic breadth with analytical depth; a focused, well-supported argument about a specific aspect of research design or findings will always outperform a broad survey that substitutes coverage for rigor.

Strategy mapping's role in performance management and value propositions

The first is the internal equation they use to determine whether a business relationship is working (or not working) for them.

School bullying, violence, and student academic achievement
According to Betsy Gunzelmann's research on the role of hidden dangers within schools, in which she "defines school climate as a unique combination of intellectual, behavioral, social, ethical, and physical characteristics within a setting … (that) not only affect learning outcomes, but also impact the essential safety needs of our children" (2004), the rising rate of school violence is directly linked to the increase in diagnoses of learning disabilities within student populations. Researcher James Noonan echoes this sentiment in his own study, observing that "the climate of a school has always been … essential to a school's success in educating its children and preparing them for a life beyond its corridors … (and) a school that acknowledges the complexity inherent in its climate, and takes clear steps toward creating one conducive to learning, is a school that will inevitably become a safer school" (2005). The concept of proactive safeguarding of a school climate, rather than the typical pattern of response and reaction to crises, is relatively novel within the field of educational research, but Noonan's theory has gained traction during recent years. By fostering an environment in which students are encouraged to engage with the educational process, as well as with one another in an effort to reduce bullying and school violence, teachers and administrators can improve the safety climate of their campus before student performance can be adversely affected (Jones, 2012). Confirmation of this fact comes on an annual basis, in the form of student achievement scores and standardized test results gathered from schools across the nation, as the gap between urban and suburban academic performance continues to grow. Multiple studies have shown that "increasing academic performance, enhancing social and emotional skills, and even retaining quality teachers are all related to positive school climate," (Keiser & Schulte, 2009) and schools located in urban settings consistently return lower scores on surveys designed to assess school climate.

Whether managers learn leadership or are taught to lead
Quality and appropriate leadership is not an option to any organization. This is a must have aspect as shown in this study. This study shows that the perception about how managers become effective leaders affects how we evaluate individuals' leadership potential. Believing that a manager was born a leader is expected to result in a concentration more on selecting the right person rather than developing the employee.
