An Argument for Competency-Based Self-Esteem

In today's classrooms, it has become so easy to find numerous self-esteem issues. One that was interesting is what effect self-esteem has on the achievements of that student compared to the rest of their peers.

That there is a relationship between procrastination and self-esteem is well-established in previous and current research literature, however the nature of this relationship remains largely unknown. A survey study using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem instrument and the Lay Procrastination scale was conducted to shed further light on this area of inquiry. Findings show a direct and inverse correlation between self-esteem and procrastination, with a more extreme difference noticeable amongst those with low self-esteem/high procrastination.

Self-esteem is an important component of effective nursing and effective nursing care. Nurses who have high self-esteem are more likely to be competent caregivers than those who do not. It is also important that patients have high self-esteem so they can make needed changes in their lives to pursue health and happiness.
