It is estimated that there are more than 43 million adults who currently smoke in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2012) smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Smoking causes many diseases and reduces the health of smokers in general. The adverse effects of smoking cigarettes account for approximately 443,000, or nearly one in five deaths in the United States annually. Tobacco causes more deaths each year than all of the deaths caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, and murders combined.
