What is Writing?

Writing as an academic subject spans nearly every discipline, making it one of the most broadly studied topics in higher education. Students encounter it in composition courses, education programs, linguistics, communication studies, and professional training contexts. What makes it academically interesting is its dual nature: writing is both an object of study and the primary medium through which knowledge is produced and communicated. This tension between writing as a skill and writing as a subject of critical inquiry gives the topic unusual range, touching on areas as varied as civil rights documentation, Islamic arts such as Arabic calligraphy, language acquisition in ESL classrooms, and phenomena like glossolalia.

The papers archived here reflect a wide spread of approaches. Some take a self-reflective angle, such as skill self-assessments and reflection papers that ask writers to evaluate their own abilities and understanding. Others are evaluative or critical, including critiques of lesson plans and literary analysis of authored works. Applied and professional writing appears too, covering areas like labor relations, municipal budgets, and army regulations. Methodological writing, such as work on in-depth interviewing, treats written communication as integral to research design itself.

A strong essay on writing benefits from a clearly scoped thesis that commits to one dimension of the subject — craft, culture, function, or pedagogy — rather than treating all at once. Evidence drawn from specific texts, classroom contexts, or documented practices carries more weight than general claims about the importance of writing. The most common pitfall is circularity: writing about writing well requires demonstrating the very competencies being discussed, so clarity, precise word choice, and organized argument are not just stylistic preferences but core to the essay's credibility.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is today one of the world's most valuable companies with a market capitalization rate of $625B as of August, 2012, fueled by an over 100% increase in iPad (173% yr.-over-yr.) and 152% yr.-over-yr. growth of iPhone sales (Apple, Investor Relations, 2012). Using the Porter five forces model to analyze Apple provides insights into why they have been so successful in the past and how they are well-positioned for the future (Apple, Investor Relations, 2012). The Five Forces Model as defined by Dr. Michael Porter provides valuable insights into hwo the dynamics of an industry directly affect overall profitability and performance (Porter, 2008). It is used as the foundation of research for this strategic research project. The intent of this analysis of Apple is to first evaluate their vision and mission statement, and provide evidence of how closely Apple aligns to these values. Next, an assessment of the external environment Apple faces is provided using Porter Fives Forces Model. Next, the market penetration, market development, and product development are discussed in addition to a SWOT analysis of the company. This analysis concludes with a recommendation of corporate strategy for Apple for the next five years.

Interview assignment essay structure and format
Interview with Sarah Introduction For this paper she will be called Sarah but that's not her real name. Sarah has been blind since birth. Actually she sees some colors, she can stand in front of a tree and know that is a tree because it is tall and dark. But most of the world she sees is lights and darks. She can tell if there is sunlight or cloudiness. Besides her blindness, she is an otherwise perfectly healthy person who is 5-feet 4-inches tall, with big brown eyes, brunette hair, and a petite figure and tiny hands. Sarah is very attractive and charming and well liked. She finished high school with only two "B" grades notwithstanding the fact that she took all advanced classes, and she took classes for very bright students that were not necessarily along the lines of her greatest interest; but she took them because she always wanted to know more.
