The world as we know it today is a fast world and people are continuously adapting to the fast way in which things are done. In the process of doing this, the lifestyle and habits of many a people have greatly changed. This in turn has seen an upsurge in the occurrence of some specific types of diseases like diabetes, hypertension and obesity. Some of the causes of these diseases are quite obvious but others are vague therefore this paper will investigate the causes of these illnesses. As we will find out, some of these diseases are interrelated.
Obesity is defined better by the world health organization (2000) as the condition in which excess body fat affects the body. This means that the body fat has risen to a level more than that which is desirable. The diet that one is subjected to also plays as a contributor and also the lifestyle that we live in. Other reasons may include the inheritance factor of genetics, eating disorder diseases and infectious agents and lastly social disorders. There are several methods of dealing with obesity, the first method as suggested by Lau et al. (2007 p8) being a healthy diet and proper physical exercise.
