Shakespeare used the antiquity period as inspiration when he considered using the term "metamorphosis" in this play (Martindale & Martindale 66). Through using it he wanted to emphasize the fact that one actually experiences change when he or she falls in love. In spite that the word can be used in the same context today, the fact that present-day society is focused on being as clear as possible makes it unlikely for it to be used frequently as a metaphor to describe feelings related to love.
