Public Awareness And Human Diseases: Term Paper

It would be useful to initially target pamphlets, an informational booth or table at grocery stores, where the foundation of the problem lies. It would be effective if information is given before families go grocery shopping so they are more conscious of the items that they are purchasing. Furthermore, information should also be initially presented on TVs, in newspapers and magazines and other mediums that would likely be used in the more low-key and sedentary setting in order to galvanize individuals to get outside. Once outside, in order to sustain the physical activity, it would be nice to have water and juice at playgrounds or even healthy snacks to reinforce the healthy living lifestyle. If a spokesperson were to be selected it would be of value to have someone that both adults and children would be able to look up as a role model. Currently, Michelle Obama has launched her initiative to combat childhood obesity and would be a good spokesperson for the overall battle against obesity, as she is both admired and respected by children and adults alike. With increased public awareness, it is hopeful that the battle against obesity will be one that will for the history books instead of an ongoing epidemic as it is now. By exploring the disease, the characteristics of individuals with obesity, the risk factors, treatment options as well as programs that are available at school, a solid overview of the disease has been established. To move forward in this battle with obesity, it is important to improve on the programs already established and improve the effectiveness and proliferation of the information to the general public. In the future, hopefully Toucan Sam can stick around on the grocery shelves- just in a healthy dose this time.
