¶ … Morrow talks about books and the power that they have to comfort people and make them feel safe, or to help those same people through hard and upsetting times that they may be facing. The thing that most impressed me about this essay was the fact that Morrow showed such a deep understanding for what a book could do for someone, and that he realized that not everyone's reading list would be the same. Not all people like the same books, and what brings comfort to one person might not help someone else at all. However, Morrow was open-minded enough to notice this and to see that everyone has some type of book that he or she likes best, because that book speaks to that person in some way that other books do not. Someone else might not even enjoy the book, but to that one person, the book is very important and sometimes very moving.

What I was least impressed with about the essay was that it left off before it seemed that Morrow had really said all that he had to say. He was moving along nicely, and then stopped almost too quickly. It would have been a more enjoyable essay if it had been longer and more descriptive, and if it would have gone into more detail about the thoughts and feelings that books can create in the minds and hearts of many different people.

There are tips that can be learned from reading this essay and can then be used when writing something else. The most important tip is that narrative essays teach much more than just the actual words on the page, and if there is a deep and important point that needs to be said, narrative essays are often the best way to do this. These kinds of essays make the reader feel included in what the author is saying, and this inclusion is very important to keep the reader's interest, especially if the book or story is long. Narrative essays teach people about the author, but also about themselves and the thoughts and beliefs that they hold.
