). The HRM and HRD functions and professions have undergone tremendous changes in the past 20-30 years. Many years ago, large companies looked to the "Personnel Department" to mostly manage paperwork around hiring and paying employees. More recently, companies consider "HR" as playing major roles in staffing, training and managing people so that the organization performing at the maximum capability. There is an argument about where the HR-related functions should be organized into large companies (Armstrong 2010, 15-16) Recently, the term "talent management" is being used to refer to the activities performed in order to attract, retain and develop employees. Some people and organizations use this phrase to refer to talented and/or high-potential employees. This phrase is often used interchangeably with HR. Many people use the phrases "Human Resource Development," "Human Resource Management," and "Human Resources" interchangeably (ibid.).
