During this step you are conducting your initial canalization to: determine the abilities and skill sets for the position. This is based on looking at news of the company and trying to gain insights as to what the work environment is like.

During this step you are determining if the analysis that was conducted was correct. This will help to ensure that any kind conclusions that are made about the company are factually accurate.

Develop a job description and job specification

This when you are creating a job description that will explain the position in detail including: the educational requirements, experience, compensation, the work involved, the corporate environment and how to inquire about the position. These different elements are important because they will provide the most complete information about the opportunity. (Rao, 2007)

What is meant by the term mandated benefit? Describe government-mandated benefits. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Mandated benefits are used to cover a specific health conditions for various insurance programs over a stated length of time. The advantage of this benefit is that select segments can receive treatment for different health conditions they may have. The main drawback is that this protection will only last for a certain amount of time. (Bahiri, 2011)

Government mandated benefits are when legislation is enacted that will require that certain areas are covered under the law. A good example of this can be seen by looking at various regulations that require employers to carry Workman's Compensation for on the job injuries. The advantages of this program, is that it provides permanent protections for the general public. The drawback is that this will cost businesses more to provide this kind of coverage. Once this takes place, it could mean that employers will reduce the number of employees that they have working with them. (Keastner, 1996)

The drawbacks of performance-based compensation system include:

There are no clear standards on accountability.

Management is taking a one size fits all approach when it comes to employees.

It increases the bias of management toward particular employees who are productive by: giving them special perks and treating everyone else differently. This can led to employees becoming frustrated within the work environment, resulting in high amounts of turnover.

These elements are important, because they are showing the challenges that HRM will face with merit-based compensation programs. (Solomon, 2009)
