The company will also have to notify the employees of the new start date and may be responsible for providing compensation to the employees while they are not working because of the change in the promised start date. Short-Term Recommendation:

Carl should move the training schedule back one month to give the company the time to follow its established procedures. Despite the shortcomings of this recommendation just discussed, the legal implications of not following ABC's policies could be significant. Carl will need to negotiate the new start date with Monica by having an honest discuss of his mistakes and by informing her of why it is important to follow company policies. Carl will need to notify the supervisors of the new start dates and be prepared to take responsibility for the change. Carl will need to take immediate steps to obtain missing paperwork, request and verify drug tests, update and copy training manuals, and book training rooms.

Long-Term Recommendations:

In the future, ABC needs to take several actions to make sure that the training orientation problem does not occur again. Recommendations include:

Provide Supervisor Mentoring: Because Carl was a new employee, his supervisor should have been working more closely with him...

...

Instead, he should have had a schedule of milestones that he was following and verifying from the very start of his assignment. A schedule of activities would have forced Carl to think about the realistic time for the processes that had to take place before the orientation and would have helped to make sure that the appropriate procedures were followed.
Improve Communications: Carl should have had better communication with his supervisor, human resources and facilities during this process. He should have been reviewing schedules and progress all along with Monica. He should have reviewed a copy of the training manual very early in the process and communicated his needs to human resources. and, he should have notified facilities of his need for training rooms as soon as he had set the orientation date.

Conclusion

Carl's mistakes as well as ABC's should serve as valuable lessons learned to avoid the same issues in the future. Hopefully, the short- and long- term recommendations offered in this report will enable ABC to be more successful with its next recruiting and orientation efforts.
