Occupation Prospects

As per your recent request, the following is a sum of the findings gathered in a feasibility investigation concerning my future occupation prospects. The findings here contribute to a set of steps and professional requirements demanded for such development.

Naturally, a career begins during one's education, where the ambition to build a body of knowledge and experience begins to take practical form. However, one should engage this experience with the understanding that one's professional education is never done, but that one must always remain engaged to a selected field and to a path of individual growth. So will this enter into my future as an accounting professional.

Indeed, this report reveals that these are engagements that are accommodated for the accounting professional by such organizations as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) which cites in its mission the primary role of serving as a resource for information, support, networking and knowledge in the field. Accordingly, the AICPA indicates that among its various contributions to the shared body of knowledge on accounting procedures, it "establishes professional standards; assists members in continually improving their professional conduct, performance and expertise; and monitors such performance to enforce current standards and requirements." (AICPA, 1) These functions denote an organization with a concerted interest in keeping its members closely connected to a field which is constantly subject to change. With domestic and international laws changing to address shortcomings in the field over the last decade, such organizations are crucial to helping prepare and guide professional accountants for new demands.

It is thus that the AICPA may be said to serve as an organization which contributes to a continuing development of one's professional knowledge, keeping future members such as myself in touch with newly developing legal standards, providing access to information on trends relating to globalization, creating a forum at which members can exchange ideas and offering support for achieving the highest possible certification. These interests underscore a premise concerning my professional development in a larger sense, which denotes that it is not simply advancement that will be gained through a continued acquisition of knowledge but that, indeed, such development may be necessary to simply remain competitive and competent in the field.

This is underscored by the premise arguing that "knowledge in many fields is doubling every two to three years, and your personal interests and needs are changing constantly. Being a motivated lifelong learner will allow you to ride the waves of change, remaining able to manage and achieve your evolving career and personal goals." (Carter et al., 3) Drawn from the report entitled Keys to College Studying, this offers the sentiment that my future is likely to be considerably more open to opportunity if I continue to strive to be knowledgeable and to remain active in my professional education.
