¶ … action(s) should Christians take regarding the environment and its preservation or restoration?

Everyone should get actively involved in the restoration and preservation of the environment, regardless of their religious preferences. Even with that, Christians are especially required by their religion to be a part of the movement destined to put an end to pollution and repair the damage centuries of contamination have left on the environment. A series of passages in the Bible relate to how it is essential for Christians and people in general to care for the planet. One of the most notable sections is the one where the Bible teaches that God will "bring to ruin those ruining the earth" (Revelation 11:18).

One of the best solutions Christians can provide with the purpose of repairing and protecting the environment would be that of using techniques that consume renewable resources and advising the masses to avoid polluting. Even though it might come as a surprise for some, the principles of environmental care are not exceptionally different from those promoted by Christianity. The Bible often relates to how people should do their best to keep the water, the earth, and the air clean.

During the last few decades, the general public has mainly shown indifference toward the environmental damage problem. Even with the fact that many have appeared to devote their time to saving nature, pollution continues to be a present topic and the advancements done with the purpose caring for the surroundings prove to be insignificant.

To a certain degree, Christians can look upon the environment as if it were a source of consumables people need in order to survive. Thus, it would only seem natural for them to do their best in order to preserve nature.

Throughout time, members of the Christian church have not only expressed their disregard on the subject of environmental care, as they actually contributed to nature's degradation. Some Christians believe that the planet was left by God with the purpose of providing people with what they need, and not with the intention of influencing individuals to care for it. As a consequence, it became obvious for many Christians that it was their right to exploit nature with no regard to the aftermath of their actions.

Given that God cares for its subjects, it would only seem natural for Christians to be determined to keep the environment clean, given the fact that it too is God's creation. In their quest to find spirituality, Christians should be devoted to serving the last Adam, rather than the first. The planet should not be used carelessly, as it should be given time to recover consequent to being exploited. People have to remember that the fact that they inhabit the planet is a privilege, and not a right, with God making it possible for everyone to enjoy his creation. People have to take pleasure in their time on earth, rather than destroying the planet irresponsibly. By only being interested in themselves, people fail to accomplish one of their main missions as Christians-that of discovering the Kingdom of God. People should not understand personal satisfaction as being equivalent to the greatest achievement. Christians should constantly be engaged in stepping in when they know that the circumstances require them to do so.

Protecting the environment does not mean that one would have to perform dehumanizing acts, but that the respective person should attempt to do as much as possible in order for them to assist nature.

Practically everyone comes across the topic of environmental protection at a certain point in their lives and it is up to them if they want to be a part of the movement. People need to understand that it is not themselves who should be the center of their interest, as they should also look into assisting others and the planet in general. Even when individuals are interested in their own well-being, they have to realize that preserving nature indirectly helps them, given that a great deal of the resources humanity presently uses is not renewable.

Numerous Christians fail from seeing the obvious because they believe that everything can be resolved by praying. Praying does not help much as long as one continues to consume resources without doing anything in order to restore and protect the environment.

When concerning the environment, all people are equal, as it is of no importance if one is an atheist or a Christian, as long as they are both involved in saving nature. However, true Christians are especially expected to protect the environment, since it is written in the Bible that they should do so. Christian principles assist people in making the right choices and given that biblical passages can be interpreted in numerous ways, one should also look into the Bible with the purpose of finding answers to environmental problems.
