Although "Emotion and Learning" is not an experimental report, on page 45 Palombo Weiss (2000) states the research question as follows: "The more that neuroscientists explore how our brains process, store, and retrieve information, the more evident is the connection between emotion and reason." The researcher was also seeking evidence for "disproving the adage that emotion is the enemy of reason," (Palombo Weiss 2000, p. 44).
3. The researcher was looking for evidence based on cognitive neuroscience showing that emotions and reasoning skills are inextricably linked. Memories, which are emotionally laden, provide cues with which human beings make decisions in the present and future. All decisions that seem rational, according to Palombo-Weiss (2000) are really ones influenced by one's past experiences and the emotional content associated with them.

The current study is not experimental and so the research question is worded more as a thesis statement that is to be backed up by the research conducted by others. Therefore, the author relies on data gathered from peer-reviewed studies that illustrate and explain the neurological link between emotions and reason. The author's research question also reveals the report's emphasis on the neurology of emotion and reason instead of clinical psychology.
5. The way that Palombo Weiss (2000) worded the research question affected the author's findings by limiting data to neurological studies. Furthermore, the author phrased the research question in a way that precluded opposing data from being relevant; Palombo Weiss (2000) assumes that emotion and reason are linked and that research will prove that link through neurological studies.
