HUMAN RESOURCE Management ISSUES
The professor's comments to each of the two groups identified two separate problems. In your own words, describe the two problems.
The professor's comments to the first group identified the problem that the group devised a game but the game had absolutely no relation to the training material or any work-related concept. But for Helen's insistence and intervention, the professor would have had the exact same response to her group, particularly if the professor waited until both groups presented before commenting on either one.
The professor's comments to Helen's group identified the problem that her group devised an arbitrary game that had no relation to the training material or any work-related concept first, and then added a reference to the training material after the fact. To be effective, the elements of any games must be devised in specific relation to a concept of the training.
Describe a game or exercise you could incorporate into this [type] of training environment. Consider the type of training being presented and the group size.
Helen's suggestion for incorporating a role-play type of scenario into a process consultation exercise was a good one. The process of modeling behavior in a controlled environment before having to perform in the work setting allows for the identification of issues of concern, particularly in group situations with the benefit of multiple perspectives. Ideally, the exercise should emphasize typical issues presenting problems and the ability to appreciate different points-of-view and expectations. There are numerous benefits to this approach, including the opportunity for employees to consider how their actions and responses are perceived by others in the workplace environment.
List each of the transfer of training situations created by Dr. Camp, and identify how each of those situations relates to the information in the textbook related to transfer of training.
The statistical analysis serves two purposes: it enables program administrators to gauge the effectiveness of its training methods and identifies candidates who can contribute further to its success. Statistics provide one of the most objective measures of understanding. This facilitates the transfer of training by identifying employees whose actual performance indicates that they may require additional training to achieve satisfactory performance levels. The one-day refresher training facilitates transfer of training by providing a mechanism to gauge real-world experience with its implementation, in addition to providing a source of specific adjustments suggested by difficulties and any concerns identified in the first attempts to implement training in the organization. According to available research, subsequent reinforcement substantially increases the transfer of both academic learning and vocational training.
