¶ … Career Plan One of the most galvanizing aspects of this course is how it has shown that personal and group leadership are tightly intertwined and over time create a very unique leadership style. The same concepts of group or team leadership can equally apply to personal leadership and management as well, and this is evident from the strengths and work culture assessments completed.

Another aspect of what unifies the lessons learned in this course is how powerful transformational leadership is in the overall development in the influencing of behaviors, outcomes and the long-term financial performance of an enterprise (Charbonneau, 2004). Based on these insights gained, this course has direct applicability to my career plan.

How This Course Applies To My Career Plan One of the most valuable lessons learned from this course that will serve as the foundation of my career plan is that a true leader works continually to improve their accuracy, authenticity, transparency and consistency of kept commitments to earn and keep the trust of subordinates and peers. This aspect of transformational leadership showed me that a leader is who one is, while a manager is what one does.

This aspect of leadership also highlighted the need for continually working to improve the ability to interpret events and develop insight into how best ot manage complex, often challenging and conflict-driving situations. The concepts of emotional intelligence are an essential element of any successful transformational leader's ability to bring lasting change throughout an organization (Bass, 1999). This continues to be evident in how the many case studies and examples covered throughout our class showed how the development and refining of EI skills in conjunction with situational leadership.

The personal skills inventory exercises showed my innate strengths of concentrating on a given task for extended periods of time and completing them. They also showed my innate strengths at staying focused on delivering results while also seeking to continually organize and increase my own personal effectiveness and those of the teams I was a member of during this class. The ability to interpret and act on situational awareness and emotional intelligence is the foundation of effective transformational leadership (Charbonneau, 2004).

These insights have shown me that I need to become a leader of a small organization or team to begin with and seek to create a high level of collaboration and communication to refine these aspects of my skill set. These lessons learned also helped me to level-set my expectations of what I could accomplish in the first phase of my career as well. My career plan and direction have become much more focused and aligned to my core strengths as a result of this course.
