¶ … Software Computer technology has proven to advance areas of interest and commerce in positive new directions for the most part. By remembering that technology is a tool, and not an end in itself helps define the practicality of its usage and ultimately its effectiveness and efficiency. Within the profession of project management, software systems have allowed those willing to learn and master their applications a new way of conducting business and becoming more efficient and therefore more profitable.

One advantage of project management software applications is the ability that this technology allows people to collaborate with one another. The non-locality of software allows for this to happen rather simply, but without this ability to rapidly share and communicate information, the projects slow down and information is often distorted by this time lag.

This division of labor is useful for the manager as a complicated task can be significantly improved in relatively short times.
The scheduling aspects that are included in project management software provide a time management tool that is extremely beneficial to those on tight and stressful schedules. Time management is one of the greatest challenges and any help in lessening the detrimental effects of poor time management is helpful.

Unfortunately project management software cannot improve the quality of the people involved within the project. A software program is only as good as the people operating it. Too often software is thought to be an adequate replacement for human talent. Resisting this conflation is helpful in finding the right people and the right software for the project.
