Commitment to Christian Values

Pepperdine is a Christian university committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and Christian values, where students are strengthened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership. Students, faculty, and staff members of all faith traditions are welcome to become part of the Pepperdine University community. How has faith influenced your life thus far and what will you add to the continued conversation of faith on campus? (-300 words)

Before embracing my faith, I was a person who valued the explicable over the inexplicable, the clearly possible over the seemingly impossible.

After I became a Catholic, I resolved to make a consistent effort to abide by my faith. The idea that there is something beyond the world of logic taught me the true meaning of humility and the importance of serving others.

I began to diligently meditate and reflect upon the Bible in the morning. I prayed for answers to my questions. I was aware of the need for a deeper commitment emulating the sacrifice of Jesus.

My volunteer effort in service of children from single parent families and the elderly is one example of how I have been able to manifest my faith in practice. Through charitable efforts, I have been able to look beyond the narrow confines of my experiences.
