I always enjoy my summer vacations in roaming around with friends but this time I decided to do something different. I joined my family business which is a human resource organization "Proeza Human Resources" as an internee. The purpose of doing internship was not only to gain practical experience in human resources but also to know in detail about my family business and adapt in its environment. As a human resource internee, my job was to recruit, train, manage and develop other internees. Along with performing these activities, I gained practical experience about team building, organizational development and performance management. Honestly speaking, I had very little idea about all these concepts which I read in books, but I learned about these after looking at their practical application. In addition to this, I also learned how to handle, manage, and support employees and the other skills that are needed to start a career as a human resource manager.
Extracurricular Activities
I always enjoy my summer vacations in roaming around with friends and spending time with family. I have a big family of nine uncles and around forty cousins; in fact it is one of the biggest families in Monterrey. So being with my family and friends had always been a pleasure to spend time. We often plan in vacations to visit some beautiful and peaceful place so that we all can have a good gathering and enjoyment. However, this time I had some other plans to carry so I did not join my family on their trip to South Padre island. I just visited them on two weekends and tried my best to have maximum enjoyment.
South Padre Island is a resort town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. It is the most beautiful place my family has ever chosen for holidays. It has beautiful beaches with warm gulf water, fishing, boating, clubs and everything that makes island a perfect place for entertainment and fun. The moment I enjoyed most was watching the breathtaking sunsets; it was the most soothing sunset I have ever seen.
I found it to be one of the best islands for tourism but could hardly five spent five days there in total as this time my plan was to do something different in vacations, rather than only hanging out with family and friends. I wanted to do something that helps me in practical learning and experience. Therefore I decided to do internship in my family business.
As stated above I have a big family, "Proeza," all the family members run the business together and have been quite successful in growing our business to a good level. My grandfather was the founder of Proeza which now includes which includes the company Metalsa and three other companies as well. I decided to be a part of my family business this time and so joined as a human resource internee.
It was a great experience for me as it enlarged my scope of knowledge and I found how things practically work. As a human resource internee, my job was to recruit, train, manage and develop other internees. Along with performing these activities, I also gained practical experience about team building, organizational development and performance management. Honestly speaking, I had very little idea about all these concepts which I read in books, but I learned about these after looking at their practical application. In addition to this, I also learned how to handle, manage, and support employees and the other skills that are needed to start a career as a human resource manager.
In order to recruit internees, the first thing was to invite the college students to apply. I visited several universities with human resource personals of my office and represented the company there. We meet the college administration staff and explained them our company details. We had prepared presentations for the college authorities as well as for the students.
We explained to the college administration and senior professors about the ways in which our organization can benefit their students in long run. Moreover, we also took permission to give presentation to the students in the college and encouraged them to join our firm as internees now and employees afterwards. Handouts were also provided to them, which also contained details about our company and the skills and abilities that internees can learn by working with us. We also pitched the colleges to advertise us on their notice boards so that the students who missed to attend the presentation can also avail the opportunity of working at a better place.
As a result of our efforts, many internees joined our company and were provided training. I also joined their group and learned so much about the basic HR functions by receiving training from the Human Resource Personals, Senior Human Resource Personals and Human Resource Director.
Along with working in this office, I also worked in Metalsa and as stated above it is also family business coming under umbrella of Proeza. Its main purpose is to engineer assembled metal products and serve the automobile industry. I found going there little hectic as I had to drive 30 minutes to reach there but I managed to go few days and I believe it was a good decision because it helped me knowing so much about Metalsa. This internship proved to be a quite good experience and will help me in the future to work for my family business. My uncles have worked really hard to make it a successful business and now they expect from our generation to cope with it in the near future.
