Daiso Strategic Alignment

Humans are constantly reasserting beliefs in their own skills and abilities. Without question humans constantly give themselves undue credit while ignoring other factors contributing to the individuals overall behavior. This occurs constantly in work environments, social circles and governments around the nation. Such is the case of humanism or the belief that humans are of prime importance irrespective of divine or supernatural intervention. According to Flo Wineriter, president of the humanists of Utah, "Humanists believe that moral values are neither divinely revealed nor the special property of any religious tradition, that they must be found by humans through the use of their natural reason, and that our beliefs about what is right or wrong in human behavior must be constantly subjected to the deepest reflection in light of our evolving understanding of our nature and the world in which we live (What is Humanism, 2012)." This belief provides affirmation to the dignity of humans and their ability to evoke radical change in the natural world. Humanism is fueled by a belief of both hope and compassion for others. This belief and passion has affected the western world in profound ways. First, this humanistic approach has given rise to capitalism which provides goods and services that benefit society at large. Furthermore, humanism provides a means for individuals to continually give to those less fortunate in life. Humanism, therefore, is a belief committed to the rationale thought and responsible behaviors that will ultimately enhance the quality of life for those on Earth.

The beliefs of humanism have affected western civilization with respect to capitalism. Humanist believe in the power inherent within each human being. This power has been release in America in the form of capitalism. Individuals create products, goods, and services that society demands and are willing to pay for. As such, people have incentive to create products that people ordinarily would not think to develop. This unlocks human imagination and potential through the use of these incentives. Many of the worlds create inventions where the result of these beliefs. Henry Ford revolutionized automobile production through this belief. Radio, television, and eventually the iPod where created through this system. Humanism allows individuals to believe in their own abilities in regards to the development of products. There is literally no idea to large or small. As a result society benefits through the use of humanistic beliefs and attitudes.

In addition, humanism impacted our cultural belief in regards to individual races and ethnicities. The humanist society of Utah has the following statement embedded on their website: "Humanists encourage moral excellence, positive relationships and human dignity; compassion, cooperation and community (What is Humanism, 2012)." Notice the definition did not include anything in regards to race or physical appearance. All the above mentioned characteristics can be obtained by all individuals, irrespective of race. As such, humanism has altered the western world by treating all individuals fairly. This task if far from complete as racism and social unrest does still exist in the western world. However, its prevalence is significantly reduced as a result of the collective efforts of the beliefs of humanism. Many humanist have fought for civil rights and women's voting rights when these movements where just forming. Many humanists are involved with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which also fights social injustices around the nation.
