Defining Growth Strategies in Kava
Nik has quickly realized that Kava's economy is a paradox in that certain industries are well advanced; including agriculture, petroleum, natural gas, and tourism, others including banking, education, and healthcare are not. With over 50% of the islands' population being under 15, Kava's long-term productivity as an island nation depends in large part on getting its own population educated so they can run these industries now and in the future.
As a potential mass communications provider, Nik sees how creating educational programming is both a potential contributor to the island's social welfare in addition to being a potential source of funding from regional governments to provide educational television to the island's residents. The use of benchmarking of existing communication mediums in assisting the residents of Kava to attain educational levels needs to be balanced against the costs of these mediums. There is a definite price to creating educational programming yet the benefits from both a corporate social responsibility standpoint and the ability to qualify for government funding are needed on the island nation.
Once the processes of how residents learn through mass mediums then Nik and his team can create a plan for introducing their non-profit television programming to the island while at the same time seeking out government grants to support the initial launch of this business, and financing it on their own until it can be established.
Mass Communications Strategy Leads to Services
Initially focusing on creating educational television and successfully launching this as a public service will give Nik and his team credibility in the company and also in the kava community. Given the reach of public access television in the community, Nik needs to next consider the other unmet needs throughout Kava, which are banking and healthcare.
