In order to have a successful hospital environment and to avoid accidents a highly organized system can be achieved by installing Interdisciplinary care. All the members of the hospital belonging to diverse fields should work as a team, by coordinating with each other sharing a common aim for the patients. Installation of an Interdisciplinary care system in a hospital is advantageous for patients, health care provider, students and for health care delivery system. There are three main tasks of interdisciplinary team, the coordination, communication and sharing of responsibilities.
Delegation
In order to have a successful clinical setup, it is necessary to provide constant care. The new supervisor nurse should install an Interdisciplinary team of the health providers within clinic. They must fulfill the needs of every individual client. All the members of the interdisciplinary team belong to diverse fields but in order to provide a quality care to the patients they should work as a team, which can be achieved by coordinating with each other and most important by sharing a common aim for the patients. The initial step is to appoint which team member will handle which specific complaint of patient. The interdisciplinary team works by coordinating, communicating and the sharing of responsibilities. Such team efforts can enhance the satisfaction of the clients and allow the health care practitioners to excel in other fields and learn new skills. In order to provide quality care in primary health care system, the clinics need to get closely integrated with the whole health service system. (Ilyas Mohamed, 2006). To achieve this goal, a regular meeting can be held, involving all the member of the team who will be provided with patient information. It is necessary to respect view and suggestions of every member before taking a final decision for the client. Team leader should resolve conflicts and misunderstanding among the members of the team and ensure that an efficient communication and understanding must be conducted regarding the client.
Installation of a successful health care system needs an efficient communication and team work. In the following Scenario a quality health care can be achieved within the clinic, firstly by involving Nurse Ms. W, who has been handling the case since the beginning, her keen interest and enthusiasm to help the patient should be respected. She tried her best to satisfy her client by writing down instructions for her and by providing her with personal mobile number. In order to have a positive environment, nurse supervisor should call and discuss the case with nurse Ms W, listen to her perspective and suggestions regarding the client's condition and how better outcomes can be achieved. By doing so Nurse Ms W. will not feel insulted or degraded instead she'll feel her self to be the part of team who share a common goal of satisfying and fulfilling client needs and demands. Duty of a nurse supervisor is to make Ms W. realize the reason for her frustration and client dissatisfaction was her ignoring the fact that she did not make use of other resources present within the clinic. The main purpose is to make her understand the importance of working as team to achieve a quality care system within a clinic.
According to Nursing Act 1991, the role and responsibility of a registered nurse is to promote the health, providing care and treatment for health related problems by preventive, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means, in order to maintain and achieve the best possible outcome for the clients. In the following case the Nurse Ms W. have the responsibility to communicate the complete history and findings on examination to the other members of the interdisciplinary team. On the basis of her knowledge and skills she should refer the client to other health care providers. According to World Health Organization's policy "health for all by year 2000" there has been stress on making the nurses the leader in promoting health (Gott and O'brein, 1990). At this time of complicated health care agenda's, increased cost of health care and very limited access to the physicians, the other parts of health care delivery systems, such as the nurse practitioners need to improve and provide appropriate and expanded health care in order to improve the quality of health care system.(Worster et al., 2005)
In order to have a positive outcome for the patient, the nurse supervisor should educate her staff regarding the role and responsibility of the members of interdisciplinary team. This can be achieved by arranging education programs, seminars and workshops for all the members of the team. This is helpful in making each member realizing and understanding the role and responsibility of other members and thus helps them to refer and recommend their patients freely to other health professionals within clinic. This will help in accomplishing a constant care for the clients within clinic.
