¶ … discipline (and its related subjects) before you examine Sustainable Business Development area?

Based on reading and paying attention to online, print and television media, I'd been able to get the general concepts and frameworks of what sustainability is, why it is important to societies, and what the benefits are to companies. I'd also been able to define the key terms and concepts and see how the potential existing for companies to attain greater levels of efficiency and performance as a result of being sustainable as well. The concepts of Triple Bottom Line (TBL), LEED certification were known from these general sources of information, in addition to the efforts of companies to drastically reduce their carbon footprints as well. The areas of Sustainable Business Development (SBD) relating to the development of entirely new product lines at General Electric and others was understood at a more strategic level overall. The specifics of how all these initiatives tied together however was not. The total base of knowedlge was admittedly more filtered by the marketing and branding efforts of companies looking to differentiate themselves with compliance initiatives and programs in these key areas.

As a result, what has changed in your thinking on this subject? What new perspective(s) did you engage?

The most significant is the perspective of how Sustainable Business Development (SBD) is aligned with the broader strategic plans and initiatives of companies, and how critically important having lifecycles aligned to broader business objectives are. The integration of SBD initiatives to analytics and financial reporting, in addition to linking these strategies to building design, maintenance and compliance to the LEED certification is also critically important as well. The redefining of a company's vision, mission and objectives, and how they choose to align their supply chain operations, logistics, fulfillment and approaches to using this massive systems in many companies to attain SBD-based initiatives is also more comprehensive than initially assumed.
