My Accomplishments

It was Anatole France who once said, "to accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act" (Claybrook-Lucas, 2003, pp.118). It is through hard work, sacrifice, and sheer determination that I have managed to achieve some of the accomplishments I will detail in this text. As a firm believer on the need to put one's best foot forward, I have always ensured that even in seeking to accomplish a specific goal, I go beyond that which is expected of me.

My first major professional assignment was with the Zenith Bank Plc. Lagos, Nigeria, where I was the appointed the bank's Customer Service Unit Head. Being my very first professional assignment, I must say that at the end of it all, I managed to accomplish a number of feats. Firstly, through nurturing better business relations with clients, I was able to further enhance the bank's ability to retain customers. As the Head of the Customer Service Unit, I also ensured that those under me adhered to the best practices when it came to handling of customers. Still on this front, I was able to further enhance the unit's level of professionalism in the handling of customer complaints. In full realization of the role employee development plays in the improvement of employee performance, I was actively involved in not only the training but also the skill development of my team of seven. As Pride, Hughes, and Kapoor (2011, pp.264) point out, training and development is critical when it comes to the improvement of not only the skills but also the abilities of employees. Indeed, it is through the provision of excellent customer services as well as equipping employees with the relevant skills that I managed to increase productivity and efficiency in this particular unit. In the end, and in recognition of my accomplishments on the customer service front, the bank's leadership awarded me (and my team) the Best Customer Service Staff in Lagos Business Office Award. Earlier on, my team had been named the Best TQM Compliant Staff. These are some of the accomplishments that served as the foundation for my appointment as Head of the Fund Transfer Unit in the same bank.
