The ESTJ personality stands for Extraverted Sensing Thinking Judging based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. These personality types enjoy order and stability, and because they are organized extroverts, they make good supervisors of others. They are also practical, which helps make them good administrators, as well. Known as supervisors, they enjoy being in charge, commanding others, and making decisions.

They like organizing and motivating people, which is another reason they make good supervisors, but they are also very happy enforcing rules made by others, or a higher authority. They are also very good in groups, and they often join a wide variety of clubs, organizations, and such, because they have a deep need to belong. They also are extremely close-knit with family, and that is tremendously important to them as well. In school, and in life, they follow the rules and are extremely industrious.

They would never think of missing a wedding, funeral, or anniversary, and traditions are extremely important to them. They eagerly observe holidays, birthdays, and other traditional celebrations, and they love to find out more about their family tree, both because they are curious, but because knowing their roots makes them feel more secure and gives them even more a sense of belonging. ESTJ's are extremely responsible, and they enjoy giving good service to everyone. They also like to receive good service, and can be critical when they receive bad service.

They are ambitious and believe that hard work can earn them the things they want in life. They are not lazy and do not condone that in others. You will often find ESTJ's in professions such as banking, teaching, political office, coaching, and of course management at any and all levels. ESTJ's are outspoken as a result of their judging natures, but they are not afraid to make tough decisions, either.

They are never afraid to stand up for what they believe in, or to take a stand on an issue, even if it is controversial. They sometimes forget to take others' feelings and points-of-view into account when they judge, or when they make important decisions. They are judgmental in other areas, as well, as the J. In their personality clearly indicates. They appreciate "normal" or orthodox behavior, and do not condone abnormal or unorthodox behavior.

Even their sense of humor can be centered around what is normal, not normal, or off center. They can be regimented, and they can be overly disciplinarian in some cases. They like things to run smoothly, and they are often the impetus behind a smoothly running organization, group, or civic process. Because of their extrovert and thinking natures, ESTJ's are always interested in what is logical and factual about situations, and they enjoy supervising production and productivity.

They make good leaders, because they can make impartial decisions, and will not back down after they have made a decision. They are more concerned with external forces, and so, they are attracted to products, goods, and services, rather than the internal motivations for these items. In other words, they are consumers and they like material goods. ESTJ's like to bring things to closure quickly and effectively, and they may even overlook some information or input if it seems as if it might impede closure in some way.

They engage in primary thinking, which helps create their desire for regimen and discipline. They like being in charge and directing others, as well. They are down to earth, and do not like to be phony. They make friends easily, and usually have many friends in their lives. Some famous ESTJ's include Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, George W. Bush, Carrie Nation, John D. Rockefeller, Bette Davis, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Rudy Giuliani, and the Rev. Billy Graham.

ESTJ's make up about 10% of the population, Some ESTJ's could potentially develop passive-aggressive disorder, because they are associated with Freud's theories on sadism according to many sources. Because they like power and to be in control, they can be seen as aggressive by some people who dealt with them, and because they like order and following the rules, they may back down in other areas that are not as important to them.

Passive-aggressive disorder is also known as the Negativistic disorder, because many of the people who suffer from it are extremely negative and unable to see anything.
