Abstract

This is a paper on the team organization and internal logistics that are geared towards ensuring the suffering of the general public is alleviated especially during disasters. The three agencies looked at are Coca cola company, the American red Cross and The Salvation Army in their engagement in SCR within the society.

This research paper evaluates the services provided by community agencies and multinationals and the manner in which they discharge their duties within the community. The research will mainly dwell on the American Red Cross, a community agency based in the U.S., Coca Cola and The Salvation Army. The paper will give a short overview of the 3 organizations that will touch on Evaluation of the organizations' involvement and responsibility to the community, give summary of factors influencing the social responsibility strategies of the organization, the potential ethical or moral effects of the organizations' social initiative or potential social initiative. The paper will also establish whether the organizations have social initiatives and if they do not then social initiatives should be identified for the organizations, comparing the similarities and differences between these different organizations and their communities will also be part of the paper. Finally the paper shall highlight how it might support these organizations' social initiative in the community.

Introduction

The community agencies mainly focus on providing disaster relief, emergency assistance and informative education to the surrounding community that pertains to public health. Among the identified community agencies are The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Coca Cola.

The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is an agency issued with a corporate charter by United States of America congress and it provides community services or public health services for the entire American community. The organization which is dedicated to saving lives and assisting the American community to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies has its main headquarters located in Washington D.C. The American national Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that is mainly driven by the spirit of voluntarism and it is funded by donations from the American people and the community at large, income generated from blood, safety and health products, and also fees collected from training programs on health and safety.

Among the notable deeds of the American national Red Cross apart from the blood, health and safety services is the response to disaster. The organization did a commendable work during times of disaster such as the 2005 hurricanes, the Florida and Kansas tornadoes of 2007, the Conair air crash, the Midwest floods of June 2008, the Minneapolis bridge collapse and the recent Haiti earthquakes. Their response to these disasters propelled them to international spotlight for their community services (Dulles F.R., 1971).

Roles and responsibilities of nurses in the American Red Cross

The nurses in the American national Red Cross have played very important role in the historical evolution of the organization; the first role that was remarkably played by the American Red Cross nurses can be traced back to the Yellow fever epidemic in 1888 and the subsequent Johnstown floods that occurred in 1889. According to the chief nurse interviewed for this research, she attributes the critical role played by nurses in this organization as being drawn from the nursing vision which is "American Red Cross nursing, a presence throughout uplifting lives with compassion and special skills, competent and prepared in strengthening the organization with innovation and support to enhancing the Red Cross."

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is among the world's major providers of social aid assisting close to 50 million people in the United States. Further to community centers as well as disaster relief, Salvation Army offers services in refugee camps, particularly amongst displaced people in Africa. This is an Organization that has been awarded an A- rating by the American Institute of Philanthropy. (Sandall R., 1947).

Efficiency

There has been an efficiency in operation with proper management as well as skilled careers in Salvation Army home base care and this has been applaud by the communities they work with. There has been deep compassion in service delivery, integrity as well as value for life within The Salvation Army and this has willfully created the connection linking spiritual life as well as social life. The systems has been seen as stable and growing in both evaluation as well as monitoring component which has not been doing well for some time now. They have tried to minimize the project cost, this is because of the manner in which they have designed their implementation procedure with the help volunteer caregivers living in their personal communities.

Sustainability

The Salvation Army has an incredibly proficient, decidedly professional, greatly experienced program administrative team in whom they have invested their time, energy as well as resource. On the other hand, the long-term constancy of this team is delicate as a consequence of proper job-security for program employees. The succession plan to maintain the existing successes as well as impetus of the program at a leadership and management level is never clear. It is clear that the program services delivery is proper from the caregivers side, as they are spirit lifted to serve their communities with zeal not basing their work on material benefit.

Coca Cola

The Coca Cola Company is a limited business with a worldwide presence. The company supports and takes part in community work and this expands as their business does. The Coca Cola initiates and supports relevant projects to the communities around them globally. They have always committed their time, recourses as well as their expertise in developing and maintaining vivacious, sustainable local communities. The Coca-Cola Company has stood by their commitment by partnering with the likeminded organizations worldwide in supporting inventiveness as well as programs that act in response in a significant manner to community needs.
