As you know I value your insight and friendship. Ours is a relationship founded on trust, love and understanding. These are among what I consider important values in any relationship, whether with a parent, friends, sibling or partner. When I was a young man, my parents commanded discipline and order. This is one of the reasons I am often so encouraging of your own thoughts, opinions and ideas.
I hope I have taught you how to respect others and adopt mindful practices in your ever day actions. I do believe I raised you to use proper manners, as my parents did me, without pressuring you unduly to withhold your own curiosity, intellect and human nature. It is my hope you will share this flexible attitude with your own children as you learn the ins and outs of parenthood later in life. Though family values change with time, I do believe that the concepts of self-respect and dignity remain critical for each and everyone's healthy development.
