I. Introduction

A. Hook: I describe the surreal experience of seeing all of the traditional #1 Dad mugs suddenly changing to reveal their true rankings. It startles me and is at first unpleasant not finding myself #1—or even in the top #100. I find my name way down around the bottom 40th percentile. How discouraging! I thought I was a much better dad than that. I pause to reflect. Maybe I’m not as great a dad as I assumed.

A. I describe the initial shock and disbelief of watching the mugs change before my eyes.

B. Explain how the mugs’ new rankings bring into question the idea of who truly deserves to be called the “#1 Dad.” I look over my shoulder at Gary who is in the top 10. Really? Gary? I always believed he was a total loser of a dad.

C. Discuss the feelings of confusion and insecurity that come with this realization. Is anyone else seeing my ranking? Can I hide this mug? I have to get rid of it before someone else sees it! But no! Let it stay! Be honest—the mug is probably telling the truth.
