Green Energy Importance of Green Energy Sweden is aiming, by the year 2020, "to replace all fossil fuels with renewable before climate change damages economies and growing oil scarcity leads to price rises" ("BBC News- Science and Nature"). The impact of fossil fuels, namely oil, is so significant that Sweden has realized that things need to change its nation's practices in order to reduce the negative consequences on its nation as and its citizens.

With the impact of the rising oil prices so significant on Sweden, it begs the exploration of the future of oil in America. Our cultures dependence on oil seems to be destroying the society that is cherished by the population; thus, Americans need to start using more eco-friendly energy sources to foster a livable world for the future. Foremost, the economic impact the America's dependence on oil has on society is significant, both on an individual basis as well as for the country as a whole.

When gas was three dollars a gallon back in December of 2010, that is when Ronnie Undeberg of Florida decided that he would start driving less and when gas hit four dollars a gallon, Undeberg said that he would need to "scale back his cable television package and cut his cell phone use" (Mouwad, and Bunkley A1). People are certainly feeling the impact of rising oil prices at the gas pumps and this rise in oil prices is hindering daily activities.

The increased dependence on oil means that people have to make budget alterations in order to fuel their cars or heat their homes. If people do not have alternate means to complete either of those important things, then it further reinforces people's dependence on oil. With increased or stable demand for oil, the prices can continue to increase without any roof to the prices which has obvious negative consequences for people's lives. Additionally, the negative impact that oil dependency has for our nation is also noted.

In November 2009, the U.S. trade deficit found that rising oil imports had widened the countries' deficit, which actually links the country's economic recovery and long-term growth to the nation's reliance on foreign oil (Lefton, and Weiss). The Center for American Progress goes onto conclude that the country needs to "kick the oil addiction by investing in clean-energy reform to reduce oil demand, while taking steps to curb global warming" (Lefton, and Weiss). Furthermore, the issue of global warming is also a growing concern in modern day society.

The increased greenhouse emissions from fossil fuels as well as the act of drilling for oil increases global warming, which has many detrimental effects on the world including, the increase of temperature on the earth and rising sea levels which will both have a detrimental impact on the world's natural resources, land masses and ecosystems ("Time for Change" ).

Without alternatives to fossil fuels, the depletion of the earth that human beings live off of for sustenance will occur at a rapid rate, and create a less than optimal environment for the future. To that end, green energy must be researched and developed at a more rapid rate in order to halt and reverse the progression of global warming. Wind energy, electric energy, hydrogen energy, among others are all possible alternative.
