¶ … hour, the interview process was an optimal length. The two interviewers asked alternate questions, bouncing ideas off of one another and allowing me ample time to respond. They asked several personal questions too, which I had not anticipated but still appreciated because I felt they viewed me as a whole person rather than only a set of test scores. Some of the questions were standard ones, and I would have preferred more creative ones. However, I thought the interviewers also struck the perfect balance between professionalism and amicability. They were engaging, inspiring me to ask questions as well as to answer them.
I would not change much about the interview process except perhaps to extend it into two sessions. In a second session, I would use the time to create real-life scenarios for the candidate. I would include at least one scenario in which the candidate would be able to prove strong communication skills and sensitivity to diversity. Questions that relate to cultural diversity and language barriers would be relevant. The applicant's response to the real-life scenarios show how effective a pharmacist he or she will become more than their test scores. Real-life scenarios would also test the applicant's ability to handle stress and make accurate, informed decisions that impact customer health. This second session could either be offered to all applicants or as a second level of interviews offered to candidates who shine during the first session.
3. Pharmacists face enormous challenges each day they work. Communication between staff members, communication with clients, and communication with insurance representatives, health care staff, and doctors. Patient diversity is a challenge, especially when language or health care expectations come in the way of the effective delivery of service. Pharmacists must also stay abreast of new treatments, new research, and new pharmaceuticals on the market. Learning about the pharmaceutical industry by attending conferences may be the most effective solution to the challenges that arise during the course of a pharmacist's career.
Over the course of the interview I asked the woman questions about her boyfriend but mostly about herself, her happiness and her life of late. The woman described that she had a very busy course load, had to work extra hours to support herself and then found herself working very hard to support a relationship with someone who was inattentive and needy due to substance abuse problems.
