Knowing about the safe sleeping positions for babies is vital information in preventing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) 1. The strategies implemented to avoid SIDS were informative because they indicate a push for improvements in areas that might have been overlooked. I did not know how big INOVA was, and I found that to be quite valuable information. As the information is being disseminated, it would also be vital that the bad sleeping positions be discussed and demonstrated. While we may focus more on safe sleeping positions, we should not fail to mention why the bad positions are wrong and the effects they can have on the child. Also, note that there are risks involved in infants sleeping on their back for long periods. One of the risks is positional plagiocephaly. Sharing knowledge is vital for improving life and reducing infant mortality cases. As Proverbs 2:10 states, “For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.” 2 We can be confident that with the knowledge we pass on to parents, we will be making their souls pleasant.

It is good to develop a coalition of community members to fight and spread information regarding the burden of obesity. I believe the community coalition is guided by this quote from Proverbs 11:14 “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.” 2 Using the coalition is excellent for the community and will spread the word to even more people. I like the approach because winning the battle against obesity is multifaceted, and using the already established coalitions, the information can reach more people. The strategies used should include information on healthy recipes that families can prepare. These recipes should include information on the products to buy, what to avoid, and how to read food labels. One would be shocked at how much information is lacking regarding the causes of obesity 3. Therefore, considering strategies related to food purchase and preparation can be beneficial. Another suggestion would be to include the importance of physical activity in the educational materials.
