Being contemporary human beings, it is about time that primitive beliefs are deemed irrelevant. A political set up that is independent of religious influences is perhaps the most appropriate for a country because of the fact that more people will eventually be brought closer together.

Considering the ongoing discrimination, it appears that this is the most appropriate thing to do. However, this does not in any way mean that individuals will not be free to practice their respective religions; their religions should not have anything to do with the political system, and no religion should in any way influence the political system. If the religious approach is nullified, there would be less controversy over the issue, and gay marriage would also be included in society. This does not mean that religious gay marriage should be enforced, but it means that the state should permit gay couple to live together and even give them their rights to receive social attention (medical and the like) without any hassle or discrimination.

Aside from the discrimination that can be removed, there also needs to be a way of reshaping the economic system so that there are fewer inequalities.
