The environmental impact audit is required in certain industries. However, it is becoming standard practices in industries where it is not required as well. The product life cycle has a tremendous impact on the environmental impact of the company. Products that have a short life cycle, or that are not recyclable have a greater environmental impact than those with longer life cycles. One of the key challenges being faced by accountants is how to quantify the impact of the product life cycle. This research explores current theory and practice in this specialized area of accounting.
