Johnson & Johnson (J&J) is the eighth largest pharmaceutical company, sixth largest consumer health care company and the largest seller of medical devices across the globe. It has provided a period of care to its consumers for more than 120 years (1886-2012) and therefore it is a brand that is very famous and well recognized by people in all parts of the world. Johnson & Johnson was started by three brothers which turned out to be consumer's favorite brand due to its thousands of healthcare products including Tylenol, Acuvue contact lenses, Baby Powder and Band-Aids. Johnson & Johnson ranked number 4 in 2009 Fortune Magazine in the list of Most Admired Companies (Fortune Magazine). This is due to its excellent corporate governance and corporate social responsibility (Akerstrom 2).

Company Information

Today Johnson & Johnson has over 260 operating companies that are located in more than 60 different countries having around 128000 people across the globe. This family of companies is organized into a variety of business segments that comprise of franchises and therapeutic categories. The company is run by 13 Board of members. Alex Gorsky is the Chairman, Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer. Mary Sue Coleman is the President and Ian E.L. Davis is the senior advisor of the company.

Johnson & Johnson has been successful in introducing new and unique products to its consumers throughout the century. One of such famous product is Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages that was invented in 1921 by Johnson & Johnson's employee Earle Dickson. This gave Johnson & Johnson the opportunity of introducing the first commercial dressings of small wounds that consumers could use themselves.

Another important invention was JOHNSON'S® Baby Shampoo. They introduced this unique shampoo for babies with NO MORE TEARS formula in 1954. This was the first soap free shampoo in the market with mild touch made especially for cleaning the babies without irritating their eyes and giving them tears.
