¶ … God's Will How often in a lifetime are we faced with decisions we have to make? Of course, if we discuss every day decisions, these are probably millions to be made in a lifetime, but the big decisions that mark the way we live? Perhaps there are one hundred such decisions. Knowing that each one of these can change one's life makes them even harder to make.
The fact that God is there to show us the right decision to be made- here is something that somewhat lifts the burden we feel. As M. Blaine Smith arguments in his book, guidance is one of the Bible's greatest promises and one we find useful in many situations. We are promised that God is there to give us all the necessary information we need to take a decision.
As the author tells us, guidance is given to us incrementally, that is, we are only shown little bits of the puzzle, bits we need at a certain point or another, but not the entire one. The picture is revealed only little bits at a time. The evidence of the Bible and of the Scriptures is essential in Smith's book. It is here that he discovers elements to back up and support his thesis.
It is through biblical stories and experiences that we learn of "and equally diverse examples from Smith's own pastoral experience, we learn the human dimension of God's guidance, the importance of the personal resources at our disposal, and what happens when we do wander off the Holy Spirit's path." The way the book is written and the message it sends out will certainly make the reader forget his own misconceptions and will perhaps lead him to follow and recognize God's will and guidance in his actions.
