Landscape modeling is a technique used to evaluate the projected outcomes of various land management and restoration scenarios and strategies (Xi et al. 2009: 191). The authors of the article "Landscape modeling for forest restoration planning and assessment: lessons from the Southern Appalachian Mountains" used the landscape simulation computer model LANDIS to compare and contrast different strategies for restoring damaged forests in the southern Appalachians. Determining the effects of restoration projects can be difficult, given the varied nature of the causes of the damage. In this specific case, the southern pine beetle was responsible, but other causes of forest damage...

The goals of restoration can likewise be controversial and involve prioritizing a diverse range of criteria, including "aesthetics, biodiversity, recreation, and economic cost" (Xi et al. 2009: 192). Even when the goals are agreed upon, the success of various processes can be difficult to monitor, given that such efforts are invariably long-term in nature and will be impacted by added environmental stressors, such as new storms and pests. This also makes it difficult to learn from the results of past projects.
Goals for 'improving the environment' can be extremely vague and conceptual in nature. Computer modeling can project vegetation changes and the response of the environment to various practices over a long-term duration. Modeling programs like LANDIS "allows forest succession and disturbances to operate on cellular landscapes comprising heterogeneous patterns" and thus gives scientists objective data that can be used when setting priorities, such as the…

3+). If Americans find out about government law enforcement policy primarily via media as Elias contents, it is axiomatic that we find out about international crime via media. If we cannot be bothered to read for ourselves the bills introduced to Congress that result in laws to find out what those laws really mean, we certainly cannot be bothered to read and interpret the Koran to see where the truth

BIM Strategy Developing BIM Implementation Strategy for Libyan Construction Sector Construction, on any project, is a piecemeal affair that often provides so much confusion of parts that it is difficult to ensure that there is not some important element either lost or forgotten. This issue of resistance to change is a critical one that will require significant effort to overcome. As a first step, the development of needs analysis is critical for understanding how the systems can be designed to be of more value to those using them. This is essential to increase the likelihood of acceptance of the supply chain system, both within Imperial Tobacco Canada and with its suppliers. The

lowland Maya decimation is much more than at any time before, and there are currently several studies that concentrate on the period from roughly A.D. 750 to A.D.1050. Previously, researchers have had a tendency to sum up clarifications of the decimation from individual locales and areas to the marshes in totality. Later methodologies push the extraordinary differences of changes that took place over the swamps amid the Terminal Classic

The exponential growth of the Internet has also served as the catalyst for the growth of highly collaborative, interactive forums and platforms on which Delphi-like brainstorming can be accomplished (Decker, Wagner, Scholz, 2005). Conversely many of the external relationships companies have and that are essential to understanding how the strategic planning process will impact an organization lend themselves to quantification. An example of this level of quantification of external
