Leadership Vision The human spirit in one of its many qualities tends to be drawn to events and ideas that are bigger than themselves. Vision Statement Discuss the way vision was used at Mentor Graphics. At Mentor Graphics Corporation, the created vision had several components, which might be regarded as questionable in terms of effectiveness. First, the vision was "unarticulated," meaning that, at best, the vision was not even a statement as such. Instead, it is likely that most employees and managers were not as such aware of the vision statement, but rather had little more

Leading Change The Department of Veterans Affairs did not have an effort that was focused on protocol services despite the fact that they were a cabinet level organization. Because of this, the organization needed an effort that directly advised, assisted, and supported developmental activities for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and the Chief of Staff on not only official matters of national and international protocol, but also in planning, hosting, and officiating

(Again, to refer once again to wartime parallel, one battle victory or capture of an enemy leader increases motivation, but does not justify or provide a vision for winning an entire conflict.) When the perceived role and the expected role are incongruent, conflict can occur both between the leader and his followers, and within himself. This can result in a slowdown in production, a lowering of morale and resistance to changes that the leader may be trying to implement (Robbins & Judge, 2007).
