¶ … Future Implications As a sports management major, community service has provided me with an opportunity to enhance my understanding of sports, and to provide service to the underprivileged children in the community. I volunteered at a local high school, where the kids come from low income families and communities, and I help with fundraising projects that are aimed at acquiring new sports equipment or sponsoring football matches. I also coach high school football and I regularly give talks on perseverance and hard work, where I motivate youth to avoid negative influences despite their backgrounds.

From a young age, I have always believed that the world would be a better place if more people helped those who were in need. I always thought it would be an honor to put a smile on other people's faces and to give back to the community by doing what I loved. This learning experience, therefore, has reinforced my passion for sports and I am more motivated than ever to help talented youth, whose family and financial background may not enable them to pursue their talent in football.

In addition to helping talented youth become better footballers, I have discovered how to use sports as a development tool in social, economic and community development projects. By using sports activities to develop character, my team was able to help youth quit drugs, sensitize them on HIV / AIDS and encourage young girls to take an active role in sports. I was able to use football practice sessions as a medium of communication through which the youths would ask for advice and voice any personal concerns and family problems they had. This, together with their enthusiasm for football, allowed some of them to change their bad habits. Rather than focusing on professional football, this experience has motivated my decision to work with youth focused organizations in my future career. I will establish an organization that will come up with sports programs for youths of different ages, genders and economic backgrounds. Once they become part of the programs, they will engage in various sports activities until coaches are convinced on the specific sports they excel at. They will then have to take part in numerous education programs on various issues that affect the society as they nurture their talent. It has become my goal to help youth develop their character, which will increase their chances of becoming professionals in later years. However, if I had the chance to do it again, I would also address the issue of disability in sports by working with programs that deal with disabled youth who may be passionate about sports.
Different members of the society have a role to play in helping underprivileged children engage in sports activities. For instance, parents should encourage their children to sign up for different sports in order to discourage idleness, which often leads to adverse behaviors. Schools should also emphasize on sports by allocating enough time for games, investing in sports equipment and hiring coaches and trainers. Moreover, wealthy organizations should sponsor teams and donate funds for much needed sponsorships for the youth, and for construction of sports facilities

Very often, sports programs run out of funds and due to their limited resources, they have to come up with innovative ways to help the youth and at the same time cut costs. Therefore, the government should allocate enough money to youth focused sports organization and endorse numerous sports projects. Government agencies should also formulate and implement social policies that eliminate poverty. For instance, universities and colleges may be encouraged to offer scholarships to minors that are talented in sports.
