When new laws are passed, this body has the duty to attempt to inform the state's nurses and ensure that there is compliance where that is required. As an example, Assembly Bill No. 456 requires that all health care professionals wear a name tag indicating his or her certification, so this is something that applies to all family nurse practitioners (NNB, 2014). When such changes to law are made, this body will inform me and it is my job to keep contact with this body in order to ensure my own compliance with the applicable legal framework. The Nurse Practice Act is especially important because it defines nursing services, outlines the duties of the state board of nursing, and the different license types for nurses operating in the state. The NPA also sets out the terms for disciplinary action, which would be to suspend or remove one's license. There are refresher programs that it runs, and continuing education, to help with nurse practitioners in maintaining a high level of skill. The educational role is something that will probably be of value for me at different points in my career, as I seek to build my skillset and maintain a high level of performance by continually updating myself on the latest advances as a nurse practitioner.
