The Impact of Elsevier Reach (Formerly HESI) Case Studies on the Elsevier Reach Exist Examination Scores for Nursing Students Preparing for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses

This study focuses on the experiences of nurses with an attempt to identify commonalities in the experience of Baccalaureate Nursing Students using the Elsevier Reach standardized case study while preparing for their Elsevier Reach Exit Examination. To narrow the focus of this study and concentrate on this study as a historical study, the research intends to explore the past history of Baccalaureate Nursing Students to identify what measures they participated in prior to using the Elsevier Reach standardized case studies.

This history will include any specific tests, tools, classes or other educational outlets utilized by nursing students during the decade preceding formal use of the Elsevier Reach standardized case studies as a standard for nursing participation. The utilization of peer reviewed journals and case studies of nursing graduate placement and job status one, five and ten years following graduation will be critical to the success of the primary study. These resources are readily available from multiple resources which may include healthcare libraries, health journals, through individual consultations with health professionals and by development of a standardized questionnaire intended to elicit accurate primary information from both nursing graduates and their employers. To achieve this goal, the researcher will need to gather consent from the probably participants. Access to historical studies should involve minimal investigation as most of these are publicly available through multiple libraries and online health research facilities.

To identify sources for this study, the researcher will need to review prior research in nursing to first discover what tools and diagnostic criteria were established for preparing nurses for acquisition of their Baccalaureate examination. Other sources will include data from educational institutions and healthcare facilities identifying the percentage of students that benefited from other educational models compared with the results of students participating in the Elsevier Reach standardized case studies

Primary sources that may be available for contemplation will include actual test results, graduation rates and successful placement of nursing candidates at healthcare facilities. These resources may be available through testing and educational centers and from employers including health facilities that hired a percentage of nursing graduates in any given year in the years proceeding use of the Elsevier Reach standardized cases. Primary sources may also come from personal testimonials from nurses in contemporary society as well as nurses that worked previous to the inception of the standardized case studies. These interviews can be conducted using questionnaires or during focus groups where nurses are provided the opportunity to share their experiences and successes or lack thereof contingent on the type of training they received.
