In general, however, paralegals must be able to type quickly and accurately and they must be able to answer phones, make calls, and perform filing and other secretarial duties. As can be seen from the above discussion, there are many different skills and duties that are involved with being a paralegal. Some of these are similar to what a lawyer would need to know, but yet paralegals are not lawyers and cannot perform many of the duties that lawyers perform. However, paralegals are much more than just secretaries or office help for the lawyer. They can be looked at more as though they are 'lawyers' assistants,' since this help is primarily what they give to those that they work for. On large cases, a team of paralegals will often work together, and smaller cases may have just one paralegal working on it. However they are grouped, though, the importance of paralegals cannot be denied.
