Evaluative claim: What is the evaluative claim made in this essay? What is the Y term used in the essay? Is it specific enough or too broad? Does the author use good evaluative terms? Are there any weak terms used?

The evaluative claim in this essay is that a limited amount of negative experiences can have a positive effect on an individual. The idea is specific. A wide range of readers are probable to gain a complex understanding of the problem.

Criteria: What specific criteria are developed in this evaluation argument? Does the author successfully analyze how well the topic meets that criterion? Are there any criteria that the author doesn't consider but should? Are there any criteria that you find questionable?

The criteria present in the essay provide direct proof that traumatic experiences can also be beneficial for a person. The size of the essay makes it difficult for more criteria to be introduced, as they would most likely provide confusion with regard to whether or not negative experiences can help an individual progress.

Opposing viewpoints: Does the author address opposing viewpoints? How does the author show that his/her definition is better?

Although the author provides opposing viewpoints, she does not present evidence to support arguments concerning how traumatic experiences can also play a negative role in an individual's life

Sources: How many different sources are used? Are they appropriate or not? Were there any sources you expected to hear from but didn't? Is there a certain view or side to the story that you feel should have been represented by a source but wasn't? Or, are all the views and sides covered?

Although most sources are websites, they are appropriate. I expected to find sources arguing against the evaluative claim, as most sources appear to favor the author's point-of-view.
