The article provides a comprehensive review of Autism detection techniques, their benefits to families, and trends related to early intervention. To begin, the article provides clinical data related to the delay of diagnosis for children suffering from Autism. This delay is particularly troublesome as many parents report seeing symptoms within their children as early as two years old. However, according to the research, diagnosis and intervention doesn’t occur until nearly 3 to 7 years later. This is a critical element as early diagnosis helps to better mitigate the complications related to diagnosis of autism. Without an early diagnosis, complications tend to compound without proper intervention. This can cause further complications as children mature and enter adulthood. For example, these complications can impact their ability to act with other children socially, there ability to learn within a classroom setting, and how they can properly integrate into society (Steiner, 2011).
As it relates to my personal interaction, it is reassuring to see that healthcare techniques are improving to detect autism earlier in a child’s life. From a parental perspective, this allows the parent to adequately prepare both financially and mentally for the needs of the child. This also allows the parent to establish the necessary infrastructure including family involvement, academic tutors, counselors, and so forth to properly aid in the development of the child. Further, early detection techniques can benefit society and by allows healthcare professions to properly ascertain the best methods to help mitigate the negative attributes on autism on the child. From reading the article, it appears that healthcare innovations are having a positive impact on society and the world at large.
