Phlebotomy: A Career-Oriented Analysis Obtaining a phlebotomy certification allows the holder to be a part of one of the most in demand sectors of the health care field. Every clinic, hospital, and lab across the country has a well-trained staff of technicians, doctors, and clinicians, many of whom are phlebotomists. Some of the many job openings for trained phlebotomists range from working in these clinics and hospitals to working in a blood bank.
These jobs are beneficial to society and also help a person get their foot in the door, so to speak, with other jobs and occupations within the medical field. As a phlebotomist, or technician working to draw and collect blood from patients, people get first hand experience working with people and some of their idiosyncrasies. Phlebotomy courses, due to their nature, tend to be relatively fast-paced and can be completed in as little as a month or two, while most courses taken between six and eight months to complete. The job security is quite good for phlebotomists and the pay is consistent with other entry-level clinician occupations. This does not mean that a phlebotomist could not move up in their work hierarchy and make more money, but becoming a phlebotomist certainly does not require the huge investment in.
