Response (T)

Dena J.

In the first post, Dena J. opted to focus on the topic on healthcare burnout. Dena points out that he chose qualitative research for the said topic owing to the fact that individual healthcare staff opinion is required. According to Hoover (2021), qualitative research is instrumental in healthcare research owing to the fact that the experiences and thoughts of individual healthcare staff provide firsthand information about crucial aspects of healthcare delivery. Information gathered could be inclusive of suggestions that lead to improvements. Obstacles to change and growth can be identified during the study. With regard to ethical consideration, Dena observes that one ethical consideration that he would maintain would be confidentiality. Apart from maintaining confidentiality during the study, there are other ethical considerations in a qualitative research that are of equal importance. For instance, Selamu et al. (2017) point out that informed consent is an important consideration during a qualitative study. Thus, in a study focused on healthcare workers who experience mental or emotional disturbance, there is need for participants to be informed of exactly what the study entails and what is, thus, expected of them.

Evelyn O.

In the second post, Evelyn O. opted to focus on the topic on the barriers to Mammogram Screening and breast cancer in African women aged 50 years and above using qualitative research. Evelyn points out that she chose a qualitative research design for the said topic owing to the fact that with a qualitative research, the participant’s mammogram screening, breast cancer experience, knowledge, awareness, perception, values, and beliefs will be understood better by the researcher. According to Coyne, Bloom, and Andresen (1993), qualitative research seeks to understand intuitive and subjective elements. Therefore, the researcher can be able to identify some behaviors and come up with relationships that would help determine the barriers to the desired behavior. Evelyn further observes that a researcher must consider informed consent and confidentiality when collecting information from participants. It should be noted that according to Parker et al. (2015), confidentiality is especially important in healthcare research. This, according to the authors, is more so the case given the need to secure participant health data, i.e. due to the stigma attached to some medical conditions.
