As soon as Sandip appears, she blossoms, not only physically, but intellectually. The more ideas he presents to her and the more she is included in the conversations and discussions, the more we feel that education is laying a mark on her.
The tones in which the two novels are written are quite different. Tagore's work has an oriental touch to it, with accents where it is quite serious and, at times, even tragic. McKay's work, albeit just as serious, has a humoristic touch to it that makes it much more accessible and easier to read.
